Can't find a thread on Jack's appearance on Open Mike.

His decency and leadership sadly far surpassed his luck and speed. Now running an investment company for ex-athletes. Still speaks lovingly of MFC.

The world is a strange place. Trump is president, Dusty is a dual premiership player (from the same draft), and Jack is out of the league.

What number was Trump taken in that draft?

Great to hear from Jack. Quality Human

Mike’s questions were very lame. I wanted to know more about his captaincy with Grimes. Are they mates still??

Was a pretty boring interview to be honest. Would've loved to hear a bit more about neeld and his influence, where it went wrong etc. Didn't really ask any interesting questions unfortunately

Agree 100%, but Mike was always shallow. That ep could have easily gone for an hour

trengrove said there was stuff going on in the background, which is obvious, why didn't he get asked about the specifics of it, was captaincy player voted only, peptide issue, not getting played by roos, did the club mismanage his injury, was neeld really that bad (l think l know the answer to that one)

Watched the interview and, as always with discussions on Jack Trengove’s career, left feeling a bit sad and empty.  He’s a very resilient man though, much stronger and more positive than most.  No one could ever blame him for being a bit bitter, but that’s now how his mind works.

I imagine Mike doesn’t surprise many guests with his question.  I’d say that JT made it clear what he was and was not willing to discuss... one day we’ll get the whole story.

I love Jack, but his monotone voice made it impossible to watch. A very boring Open Mike..

Agree with others, a lot of questions missed.

For someone that really witnessed some interesting events (and being a part of them) there weren’t many tough questions or answers. I would’ve been keen to hear more about what he thought about the sacking of Bailey and everything that followed.

Poor guy still doesn’t get luck with injuries! But good on him for having such a positive attitude, honestly if I was him I’d probably be cursing the world.

Thanks for posting the interview. Wasn't too hard hitting, but nice to see Trenners talk about his career that was cut short. He was terribly unlucky with how his career panned out. Being made captain of the worst club ever at 20 years old and the foot injury... dealt a very poor card.

People forget how good Trengove was. He reminded me a lot of James Hird with some of his smarts and the way he bobbed up at the right moment. He also was very versatile and a great mark for his size, very similar to Jimmy Bartel. He was a super talent. An old mate of mine who used to be in recruitment for a big Victorian club still rates Trengove as one of the best underage talents this century. Skills, smarts, toughness, leadership, flexibility, he was the perfect young talent.

I'd argue he had a better first few years than any current demon bar Oliver. Trengove and Dustin Martin went 2 and 3 in that draft and both were neck and neck in terms of stats and impact for the first few years of their careers. Trengove shone more as he had leadership ontop of the brilliant footballing ability and output. He then suffered the foot injury and Dusty stayed injury free and kept improving. I truly believe Trengove would've been an All Australian midfielder if he'd got over the foot injury and not lost his pace or kicking ability.

Very unlucky how it panned out. I'll always have a soft spot for Trenners and admire his positivity and constant desire to keep pushing and trying when others more fortunate couldn't be bothered.

Agree with others on here. It was quite a light weight interview.

Mike may have had more questions but Trengove really waffled on when answering some basic questions. I felt he repeated himself numerous times and could have been a lot more concise with his answers.

i reckon he's been spooked a little bit since mark jackson went troppo at him a few years back

I reckon Mike has been a woeful interviewer.

Had Bob Skilton on & Bob was about to get into the turbulent times as our coach & his sacking & the drama with Stan Alves.

Mike just stopped, didn't ask a follow up & things petered out - we didn't learn anything.

I've never watched an episode of Open Mike. Is it live or recorded? If it's the latter, is there any suggestion that it's edited? Mind you, if it's  edited you'd expect the best bits to remain, unless they're defamatory.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
