Absolutely, this will be quite a bargaining tool and I'd expect a fair few to be using it.

Yes and the more players a club has OOC (like us) the harder it will be to accommodate their expectations and the more vulnerable we are to losing some we would otherwise keep.

Petty, Jordan and Sparrow all South Australians, I'm sure Adelaide we be on the hunt for any SA player at other clubs

Jordan is from my home town of Yarrawonga.  Grew up and played rep footy with my younger brother.

Sorry, got him mixed up with Nietschke, I knew we took 2 kids from SA in that draft and Chandler as a rookie.

I agree Crows will be after Sparrow and Petty.

They can talk about Neal-Bullen.

But we have a lot of inside mids so unfortunately Sparrow could be an option .

Sparrow and Neal-Bullen for Crows 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick  (1st selection in 2nd round and 3rd round could be interesting)

Sparrow isn't going anywhere.

Adelaide will laugh that offer off, I reckon they would have no interest in ANB.  Sparrow was only  pick 27 2 years ago and hasn't really show much.  We might be able to bundle up Petty and Sparrow our 4th round pick for Crows second round and 4th round pick.  The Crows will get Tyson Edwards son who by all accounts is a top 20 pick, so they will be looking at trading their second round picks out and get enough points in later picks to cover.

What do we get of value for players that haven’t got games, in a team that’s been absolutely putrid, for 1 1/2 seasons?

Dramatically increases the chances that he will linger longer.

(yes, I will see myself out now)

I'll open the door for you..........

Success this year will be a big factor in whether a few are enticed away. Lets say Sparrow Jordan  Petty miss being part of funals sucess this year, injuries, they will likely be hellbent on staying for future success. When you say SA we are really just talking the Crows. Dont see players bursting down the door to go there for now.

Agree. Crows are rabble and hardly an attractive option. Also go home factor is reduced because likely it could be another year 2021 on the road and in Hub type scenario once again.

Anyone got any interest in Sam Petrevski-Seton from Carlton?

Forward-mid that could potentially add some outside run and carry to our mix. In contract for 2021 but he’s got some tricks

he's a running defender...

That’s where he’s playing currently, from what I’ve heard, he was recruited as a forward-mid and played all his junior footy there in outside roles

I'd take a look mate. Good suggestion. He did play forward-mid early on. He's got a bit of that zip and creativity that we lack around the ball and inside 50 (outside of Pickett).

Anyone have any whispers on players we are chasing?

If we aren't after guys like Atkins, Williams and Papley to add leg spped and skill I'd be disappointed.

I think there will be too much interest in those three for us to have a chance - no picks, not enough cash, so best look elsewhere

I was a big wrap for him as a junior.

Certainly worth a look.

There is no way Carlton would let him go

Depends...they have needs and he's only fringe for them and being played out of position.

My Take on our Trade/Draft Period

With North having our 1st rounder this year obviously don't have as many bargaining chips to trade for what we need.

But we need to make changes to the list to keep improving (not to mention the coaching but that is another discussion).

I think we still need some young talent on the list so would be wanting to use at least a second rounder and 3rd round pick in this draft.

Unless it was for an unbelievable deal I would not give our 1st rounder for 2021, as it is meant to be a very very good draft and who knows where we finish next year !

I think for the right deal Brayshaw should be considered as trade bait he still holds a lot of value, We have the upper hand with him being contracted ( apparently Fremantle are keen)

If so ask for their 1st Round , Adam Cerra, Darcy Tucker or even Sam Sturt who we were keen on in the draft a couple of years ago

other players we should consider trading that hold some value

Brayden Preuss ( however we still need to find some back up mature ruck from else where if he goes )

Tom Macdonald - Not worth much at the moment - but if a decent deal came along we would have to look at it

Realistic players to Target given our needs.

Adel - Rory Atkins

Bris - Alex Witherden , Cedric Cox

Carl - ?

Coll - Tom Phillips, Tom Langdon

Ess - Adam Saad

Frem - Darcy Tucker, Adam Cerra, Sam Sturt,

GWS  - Adam Kennedy, Xavier O'Halloran ,Jeremy  Finlayson,  Harry Perryman, Zac Williams , Zac Langdon

Geel - Nakia Cockatoo, Quinton Narkle,

GC - Alex Sexton

Haw - Jack Gunston, Issac Smith

Nth - Jarred Polec

Port - Kane Farrel,  Karl Amon

Rich -  Patrick Naish,  Oleg Markov

Stk - Jack Lonie, Jack Sinclair

Syd - Matthew Ling, Oliver Florent, Ben Ronke

WCE - Andrew Gaff, Jackson Nelson, Tom Cole

WB -  Bailey Dale,  Toby Mclean, Lewis Young,

Top 3 realistic Targets for mine

1. Adam Saad

2. Alex Witherden

3. Toby Mclean

Assume Preuss goes (Giants or Swans) and Wright brought in as key forward/ruck backup. Sounds good.

I'm pretty sure Melbourne is happy with the list at the moment.  We have depth across the board with the possible exception of the ruck.  Could probably do with drafting another project ruck to bring on for five years and there are a few people who will be cut loose, but overall we're looking solid.

There is the problem right there we are no where near a premiership and the recruiters are happy with themselves. We need people who set standards not lower them.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
