clearly not picking the right players for us. Wasting draft picks. Why these guys are on our list bewilders me

-wagner brothers

-kolodjasnij

-baker

-spargo

-chandler

-preuss

-bradke

Questionable selections

-pickett for a first rounder, quite possibly the number 1 pick

-passing on hayden young (great footskills off the hbf. Exactly what we need)

-recruiting lever and may with 3 first round picks

-getting two wingers who can't kick

-jordon with a second rounder

Taylor needs to go

Or who does it.

This poster needs a '1 thread per week' limit.

Bit harsh on Bradtke he's a b grade rookie, but the rest are right add the Tyson ans Salem deal when we could have had Billings or Kelly. We need to sack everyone at Melbourne and start again the club is a dogs breakfast.

Seems like you're the only poster on here who's not afraid to speak up and demand change. Too many optimists on here

100% agree, he has failed to draft any decent non first rounders since he came to the dees

Mitch King

Liam Hulett

Dion Johnston

Oscar Baker

Jayden Hunt

JKH

Mitch Clisby

List goes on, draft pick after draft pick wasted.

Well, there's the nail in the coffin, @Elegt. You're on the same page as the mighty O. Time to pack up shop.

In terms of constructive criticism. I think Taylor's done a pretty good job, particularly with our earlier picks.

Most of the examples you've raised above are attributable to Josh Mahoney not Jason Taylor

Surely the chief recruiter is involved in trading

Don't let the facts get in the way of a rip roaring thread, Doc.

Just wait till next week when we roll Adelaide and we praise Jason Taylor for drafting Ed Langdon and Steven May.

Also should be sacked but instead will probably be promoted again. It’s what happens when you have an assistant coaching acting as GM

At the rate we are going we may as well give Chaplin club presidency and call it a day

I agree we have done well turning lower picks into football careers. What we are really bad at is trading. They always see us coming. We overpay our way out of high draft picks. We pay too much for May, Pruess, Leaver, Langdon, Tomlinson.

Do you post when we win? Serious question. I don't recall reading much of you when we win.

No posts between July 11 (the night of the GC win) and last night.

One post about the GC win, half about us and half about Rankine.

One post after the Carlton win.

Says the poster who does nothing but start and bump threads criticising players and doesn't engage in rational discussions.

You cop heat on here because, like olisik, you're impossible to read or deal with and infuriatingly repetitive.

If you don't like copping heat, relent on the monotonous over-posting and try talking about something else once in a while.

If this was a serious thread about drafting during Taylor's time at the club we could have all kind of interesting discussions about attempting to make the most of diverse speculative third round picks, the routine decision to trade second rounders for mature players to get some stability into the team, and the contentious decisions to bank our early picks on getting some allegedly first-rate key defenders into the club for a tilt at a premiership while we still have Gawn at full strength.

Overall, I'd say each layer of decisions has been a sensible strategy and it is unfortunate that many of those late speculative selections have had mixed and unreliable results.

But this takes us back to the old 'selection vs development' argument.  There are a lot of players who have shown something significant for at least a while and even whole seasons, but then plateaued or stagnated, or just been injured.

Hunt, Harmes, Vandenberg, Nibbler, O.Mc, Smith, Hannan, Fritsch, Hore.  All worthy AFL level when in good form, but all have seen long spells of poor form, and not a single pick above 40 in that set.

Why are you basing a stupid and under-researched post on a game off a four-day break against the top side after a 2pt loss against the second top side.  Its nonsense.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
