TMac has beeen running around looking like he will need hip replacements for a while now. Its sad but I think all his running has caught up with him.

I'm not sure if there is a natural solution to his hips but he looks like he is 45 out there. Can Burgess help him loosen up or is he shot? It's a real problem as he is a proud team leader but I honestly believe he was a big part of our poor start against Port. This is also coaching though. TMac is such a presence out there and I think some of the guys weren't given clear instructions. They looked unsure, which is strange coming off two wins.

Also Jones doesn't look like he is buying in. Again a coaching issue. He needs to stop sulking and get involved or he is gone too. Unlike TMac I think his body is okay, but he has been slighted by not being in the top 22 and consequently isn't involved enough. I think it's almost an attitude issue. Needs a bit of love.

Makes a lot of sense but that seldom seems to be part of the selection criteria at the MFC.

Vanders, Tomlinson, Bennell and Rivers all would be good inclusions IMO. ANB a chance too I reckon.

Back to the 2 tall’s in the forward line. Weid and Jacko.

Struggle seeing that two kicking a winning score Sd.

I'm hoping this is the outcome, more so about having just two talls in the forward half than anything else.

Will they have the guts to drop T Mac?  Or will they say they are giving Jackson a rest and give Tom another crack.?

Either way, as long as they go back to two talls up forward, I'll be happy.  We could all see we were too top heavy against Port.

Worked against Gold Coast (Although was mainly just Weid for most of the game) and Hawthorn Od.
And we pushed Brisbane right to the end.

Being there live on Thursday night against Port, we definitely were to top heavy and TMac struggled. That being said if they choose to rest Jacko and go with TMac and Weid then all good. Just didn’t like the way we looked with the 3 tall’s up there.

No one needs a rest, they only had a light run last Thursday...

I say this having not seen Foxtel games but has Jackson justified his spot in any game

Jacko shows glimpses of an elite player, keep him in. Unlikely to have a major impact but neither will Tom!

Shown why we took him so highly in the draft. The thing I like is when the ball hits the deck, he is still in the contest and great for his size at ground level.

He did in the Hawthorn game.  Thought he looked terrific in that game.  Obviously he didn't have the same output in the previous couple of games, but neither did Weid or TMac.

As mentioned above, Jackson is able to stay in a contest.  He is far better when the ball hits the deck, and far more athletic, than TMac.  I'll be interested to see what we got with later tonight.

Saw him against the Hawks and looked ok. The sad bit is there is no where else for him to play this year. Like everyone I guess but would he have played as many games in a normal year?

I do like the idea of the unpredictable centre bounce. Give max a break. We will need fresh legs for norf

TMac confirmed out. They are going with Weid and Jacko.

Tommy Mac officially dropped.  The right call.

Let the Weid and LJ show roll on.

A key player when right nd gives me zero pleasure to say it, but they simply had to drop Tmac.

But i said it after the port debacle i am completely bewildered by the decision to pick him for that game. He was nowhere near ready physically and they simply had to know that.

One of the strangest selection decisions i can recall from a MFC coach. Ever.

Made stranger still when you consider this comment:from Goodwin:

“[Three talls] just didn’t look like it was going to function in the right manner,” Goodwin said.

“Clearly, it was a slightly dewy night, but those are the sort of games we’re playing in at the moment.”

Perhaps Goody read his fixture wrong and though we were playing mid afternoon and didn't want to fess up.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
