Saints are now 6-3.   The difference in tactical nous between Ratten and Goodwin is huge.

They’ve certainly left us for dead as a club.

Very sad, but full credit to St Kilda.

They brought in ready made players in Ryder, Howard, Hill, Jones & Butler over the off-season, all of whom had an instant impact and have played a big part in getting them to where they are now.

That's not tactical nous.

Was very frustrating last night watching Nik Nak dominate the taps the way Gawny does but it actually being an advantage to them

he also took possession of the ball on many occasions and dealt with it in a manner that benefitted his team.

Have always wondered why Gawn does not do the same as an occasional tactic.

No, its good recruiting.

What he does on game day is tactical nous.

Dear Gil,

I've watched (too) many games on TV recently and I have no idea when holding the ball frees will be paid or not paid.  Please explain.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Foory Fan

I have appointed an inquiry to consider this issue. It would not be appropriate for me to comment publicly in advance of that inquiry.

Respectfully Yours

no, silly, he's begun an inquiry to form a quorum to raise a committee to seek expert advice to think about considering it

Serong is already having an impact on games this early into his career. Looks a future gun mid/forward. Another one missed *sigh*

We could make a premiership team on players we've passed on to pick others.

True. Maybe our picks just don’t develop because of the rotten culture they are put in?

So could every team in the league...

In these bleak times, we can still take enjoyment from Collingwood losing a match they should have won.

While it is always good to see the Colliewobbles lose, it means Freo join us on 12 points. A draw would have been better. Haha

We just don’t try hard enough on and off the field, always been the way

Winning is always a suprise. Losing is the expected

I backed them, which made them beating the pies even sweeter

They were very impressive Freo. Loved the fight and grit attitude they showed throughout the game.

They were ferocious. Interesting tactical battle given longmuire had lot to do with the pies defensive systems

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
