Is it time for Pickett to have a rest?

I couldn't agree with you more Jules.  Rest from the helter skelter and to give him time to collect his thoughts and come back fresh and ready to go for his next stint.

I would love to see Jordon given a crack, he is exactly what we want Brayshaw to be.

Not sure why people want Tomlinson brought in on the wing again, given his performances there were utter [censored].

Baker/ANB over Tomlinson on the wing.

Would love to see Rivers back in the team.

Jetta needs a rest after a couple of head Knocks.  IMO  he has struggled  and is starting to slow down. He must be carrying some sought of leg injury. Maybe he needs to refresh as the season is long enough with 4 and 5 day turnarounds.

Kossie seems to need a rest as well for a small running 18 yo it is certainly taken it out of him. to miss a couple of games and to collect his thoughts will do him good.

TMac is a must if fit we need his strength and experience and to straighten us . Weid and TMac work well together  and will be good with 2  strong marking talls on our forward line.

Maybe it is time to give Bedford another go. Fleet footed with goal sense.

Oliver needs to be dropped. He is a real liability with his kicking and decision making.... :s

I know you're joking but Oliver's second halves have been noticeably better than his firsts, do we start him forward and roll him in to the middle when he's had a bit of time to get in to the game?

The pressure of trying to clean up his ball use seems to be making it worse.

Hannan out, had no influence whole game and that last passage of play he made a poor decision even if fritter had marked it. Picket needs a rest, Jetta out of form and Bennell will need a break soon. Bradshaw also a possibility of coming out but might be too many changes.

Hard to know the ins but would think Tmac, Rivers, Smith, ANB and Tomlinson are in considerations. Anyone know how Bedford and Hunt are going?

Yeah, I just find it amusing that since people were demanding Oliver to be dropped he has been our 1st, 3rd and 4th best player according to the official match report.

He is our best clearance player and our best tackler. Viney is great too but because Oliver is significantly quicker then he chases down more people.

Oliver is quietly having a career year.

Out: Weideman, Brayshaw

In: McDonald, Tomlinson

If you can't kick straight as a forward you need to be punished and Weideman cost us tonight.

For me I would rest anyone who doesn't come up.

A wet ground, will mean quite a few of the guys will have heavy legs on Thursday night. We really needed that win and even though we are now probably out of contention for a top four spot and consequently winning the whole thing, we can possibly handle a loss on Thursday night and still make the 8. But a loss plus injuries would really hurt us, so even though some players were poor tonight it probably comes down to fitness and ability to back up.

So Nev, Jones and Bennell will probably struggle to get up and we're praying no-one does a hammy Thursday.

Not a great game for Mitch Hannan, but he hasn’t been trending that way. He’s been good for us the past two matches.  I’m not a fan of punishing players who have an off-game. Also mistakes made in the dying minutes shouldn’t cop more heat than any other mistakes made by other players.

Is this going to be you shtick every week now?

Yep. like I said, I'm going to keep everyone accountable for their mistakes.

Everytime Oliver is one of Melbourne's best players on the night I will remind people that they believe him to be a liability.

Tough selection, Weids and Jackson do enough again to stay in the team but I do wonder if they might bring Tom in for Hannan or Fritta.

Jones keeps his spot but he needs to do more defensively, that’s something AvB which is well underestimated.

I think Jetta on the back of two knocks and a poor game may be given a rest.

In: Rivers, TMac

Out: Jetta, Hannan/Fritch(/maybe Jones)

Bennell seems at present to walk with an affected gait ,almost a limp.In the warm up was only moving at half pace .not sure if he will be ever completely right but a  managed omission might br whats needed for this week. .As brave as he is I think Jetta is finished .He is so slow that everything is done under pressure .Tmac is a certainty to return and I would play Tomlinson.

you would think they'd want some fresh legs coming in off a small break

OUT: jetta, bennell, hannan
IN: rivers, tomlinson, t mac

my only issue with the above is that it makes up way too top heavy against a pretty quick, slick, port adelaide outfit

i'd also be all for dropping brayshaw fwiw, but it seems they like him rotating in through the midfield

Hannan has been solid since returning to the team. Had a bad performance today but still has a few credits in the bank. Our forward line looks a lot more dangerous with him sitting in the pocket.

Brayshaw on the other hand has been running on fumes this season and needs a complete reboot. It's been discussed here ad nauseam, but It befuddles the mind as to how the coaching group consider Brayshaw's best role is as a wingman when he finished third in the Brownlow playing in the guts. I presume Tomlinson would be the most likely replacement, although there was talk of playing TMac on the wing earlier in the week.

Unsure of how Bennell is being managed at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's rested considering our four day turnaround. I don't think many here would share the same sentiments, but I wouldn't mind seeing ANB back in the side. Has a knack of knowing where the goals are and is typically quite crafty inside forward 50.

Out: Brayshaw, Bennell

In: Tomlinson/TMac, ANB

Rivers in depending on Jetta's fitness.

Pickett was in our top couple for effort today, with more recorded sprints than any player on field apart from Langdon and our highest average speed when we were in possession. Unless he is buggered from todays effort, he doesn't need a rest.

We need to manage Bennell and I think a 4 day break may be too much for him right now. Jetta is struggling, both performance and physically, and I think he is due for a break.

Jackson does good things and looks promising but isn't imposing himself on the game just yet. The wet today wasn't the best conditions for him, so he might get another go, but it might not have been enough to keep TMac out this week, especially with the short break. I'm not sure whether this will out weigh the chop out he is giving Max or not.

Brayshaw and Harmes have been in our worst performers but they are also on low minutes so probably don't need a rest for fatigue purposes, and that low minutes might mean we want to carry them the next few weeks instead of dropping them. Both are best 22 so even though they are out of form they are better options than the alternatives at the moment.  If anything they might get more game time which might help them find momentum.

My thoughts:

Out: Jetta, Bennell, (Jackson)

In: Rivers, ANB, (TMac)

I find this equally amusing, we have looked a clearly better team since Weids came in. He missed those chances, they were all kickable and he squandered them. But he has given so much more than Tommy Mac in the few games he’s played, let’s not sure d ourselves TMac into was in awful form and somehow managed to escape he chop.

Weid has given us a lot more than Tom’s efforts.

Last season forward entries were mainly poor. This season MFC played TMac as the lone key forward. Seems harsh to judge TMac without these considerations. I though TMAc was good in his few games this year.

If Harmes isn't holding on to a jumpers and giving away a free, he's then trying to break tackles and gets pinged for it.

Dead set so predictable.

The bloke thinks he's a Dusty Martin.  The number, the tatts...never been a fan to be frank.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
