Theres a thread on the draft so I thought I would start one on potential trade targets.

With news coming out that contract freeze will end, clubs and managers will start to ramp up talks regarding contracts and player movements.

What does everyone feel is still our biggest need? Do we need another small to compliment Pickett? Or a developing tall forward perhaps.

I like Bobby Hill from GWS personally and think he'd be a perfect fit alongside Pickett.

Still think we are also lacking that outside class.

Ben Brown is gettable.  kangaroos-are-shopping-ben-brown-to-other-clubs

Sounds like North will test the water and if Brown gets a package that lands them a 1st round pick (#3-#5) they will let him go.

I believe Barrett is a North supporter so he would have good mail.

I post that for info.  Not interested in going after him.

Edit:  To clarify, Brown is out of contract but not an FA,

We still have Bedford.

I'm in the same boat.  He doesn't do anything for me.  Take away his ability on the lead and he doesn't offer anything else, which is what we're seeing right now.

Obviously as a club we need a few more better users of the footy, and we obviously need to see how things play out with someone like Weideman, but if we were to play most of the season like we did on Sunday then are there many glaring holes that we need to fill?  I think we are starting to get the mix right across the ground, but I also appreciate the fact that it's a small sample size at this stage.  Still plenty of water to go under the bridge.

Barrett supports freo I believe.

We should look at Alex Witherden who is on the outer at Brisbane.

I wonder how that will affect Brown’s performance? Whilst I’m sure North will deny it, you’d think he will be sad/gutted/annoyed that he is potentially being shopped around

How can you tell he is not close, when there is nothing to base his form on? I thought he showed a bit against Eagles and now has too many name players ahead of him and I include Kossie as a name, even though he is new.
Maybe Toby gets a look in during the 20 day crush.
I would love to see JJ get a chance then too. Sparrow might be another,

What's the go with Ian mate? Don't know much about him other than his brief AFL career so far. Did you see him in the juniors? Strengths?

Know you often have the good word on players junior careers.

Butters would be my ideal target but doubt anyone has a shot at getting him out of Port anytime soon. Given our history of tracking and targeting players we've liked from their respective draft years (Lever, Langdon), I wonder if we will have a crack at luring Butters or Georgiades in the future.

Another thought is if we might see ourselves try and move up the draft this year considering we have hawthorn's 2nd round pick and two 4th rounders from blues and freo. Plenty of teams might look to accumulate points for their academy or father/son selections.

He isn't travelling to well at the moment.

I just found this:  brown-indebted-to-north

"Ben Brown says has every intention of signing a new deal, once contract negotiations are allowed".

AFL is now allowing Contract negotiations so it may not be long before more info comes out.

I'm only up for trading to fill a genuine need which I have no idea what this is yet.

A couple weeks ago I was up for trading the entire list and then after Sunday there wasn't anyone in the 22 who I'd willingly let go.  Our list is hard to judge at the moment but we need to start looking towards replacement for Jetta and Hibberd (although Hibberd has been great this year imo).  I have been pleasantly surprised of late with Weid and OMac.

The people I'm hearing will be up include the Crouch brothers and Ben Brown but all three aren't aspirational for us right now.

I'll be intrigued as to who might want out if our list remains healthy and guys aren't receiving opportunities.  Not sure why Preuss, ANB and Hunt would want to stick around if they're not getting a look in.  Maybe we could get an upgrade on some later picks and keep some kids coming through.

He's all class mate. I know we were waiting around the traps with the Sparrow pick if he had dropped to us.

He's exactly like his cousin Brad Hill in the way he glides across the field and sets up play with his class and poise, but also zip in and out of congestion with his speed and dash.

He's someone who would start off as a high half forward and work his way on the outside of the wings and really burn off from his opponent.

He's exactly the type of outside class that we need we still lack in our side and that wing/ half forward role alongside Pickett would be really exciting.

Definitely needs to work on his consistency throughout games, but that'll come with experience.

I think our need is for that outside class as you say 'dazz'...

Someone who could take the other wing to compliment Langdon.

A ready made running half back with good disposal would also be handy.

Have posted it before, and understand some don't like the idea, but Gus for Saad and then Salem takes Gus' role?

With rucks being so influential this season, there could be a decent market for Preuss. Can't see his fit going forward with Max still going strong and Jackson looking so exciting and ahead of Brayden in the tall rotation.

He probably has some strong currency with the clubs that are regularly getting monstered at the clearances by Gawn, Grundy, Goldy & some of the other good rucks at the moment. GWS & Essendon immediately come to mind.

I also wouldn't be against pursuing Caldwell from GWS. An inside mid, but with a good inside outside balance and a point of difference to our current inside mid group (CP excepted) who are pretty similar in how they play. Was considered to be in the upper tier of that stellar crop of 2018, has had a tough run till now with injury, but had a few games in now & Burgess would keep him on the park!

Saad would be well worth pursuing, his defensive game holds up pretty well considering he is known for his rebound. Ess wouldn't let him go cheaply though.

Another key forward is needed, but Ben Brown not the one for us.

If we are looking to move a player on I could see Gus being shopped around. With Harmes back to the midfield I can see him being pushed out. We could really use an outside runner and if we could get our hands on Saad that’d be great. Whitfield would be nice but he’d cost a fair bit more.

Depending on the cost I wouldn't mind Connor Blakely on the opposite wing to Langdon. Was/is a rebounding defender at Freo but out of the side at the moment because of defensive flaws, despite that he's a good kick and has pace, both two things we could well served with.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
