So right now we have the highest score for the round, I feel like 80 could become the new 100 with the old rule of first to 100 usually wins. Good to see that we’ve (at least for this round) gone back to being one of the highest scoring teams. 

We still need to make the most of inside 50s, we had about 9 before the suns got one in the second quarter and they really should’ve got a goal out of it. 

One step forward this week, Hawthorn next week is a big one. Win that and I think we could really gain some confidence.

Dunno. I’m guessing not. He’s a midfielder and obviously we have no room for more midfielders. But he’s big and strong and might do a better job than Melky who seems to have lost interest in being a footballer..

Just heard Huddo’s smart [censored] comment of “jeez you’d think they’ve won the flag with that reaction”. What a [censored] he is, instead of that comment why wouldn’t he say something like, “look at them get around him for his first goal in 3 years”. 

I know this is pretty much the way it is but some commentators literally need a change of pants if one of their favourites does something they like, but something actually heartwarming and uplifting in these difficult times gets met with that. What a [censored].

There was zero movement all night from kick ins, and to me, it looked like the tactic to just bomb it to Gawn. Luckily for us, Gawn was having a field day and it came off more often than not, but not a strat I’d be relying on too often.

All in all, the “connection” and the composure was much better. Assuming TMac is out for a couple of weeks, which hurts, really liked the way he was working up the ground early with Weid deeper. It looked like a much better setup.

Positives:

Gawn - he was massive, and I actually feel he hasn’t quite been as influential as usual this season...until last night

Viney and Oliver - both had great nights imo, and I think Oliver’s game has been underrated on here. There were a couple of rushed disposals, but thought mostly he composed himself and took his time 

Weid - provided a target and did plenty of good things, still room for improvement

Hannan - thought his work inside 50 was first class

Langdon - playing his role very well

Rankine - wowsers, I’ve rarely had an opposition player strike fear into me like that every time it went forward, let alone a first gamer

Negatives:

Melksham - having a bludger of a year

Brayshaw - just doesn’t seem to have a role that suits unfortunately

TMac - as touched on at the top

I went down to training a couple of times in the pre season - seems like years ago now - but he was surprisingly quick in the sprint work. I’ve never thought he was ready but he looks primed to become a key pillar in our defence now. Has the physical attributes to hold a big forward and is a calm user of the footy. I think our backline looks much more stable defensively with the three talls, especially as Lever doesn’t play as a genuine key back.

OMac was unlucky to be dropped after being solid in Round 1, and was good again last night. If he and May can hold down the 2 key defensive spots, hopefully Lever can really get going and start playing his best footy again as the 3rd tall.

I couldn’t get my head around the fact that all our kick-ins went to the same side while the other side of the ground was open for players to run into.

This makes it look like he is positioning under the ball and forward of the actual flight of the ball on descent. The umpires consider that to be OK, sadly. He needs 'rear' protection to clunk a few as marks. He had about six or seven clear free kicks dead in front of goals last night - none of these we paid by the umps. It would make our scores highly respectable if such infringements were paid against the offending backs - it just would not happen to the big name forwards in more 'glamorous' teams - they receive the free kick. The green snot goblins need to look at this - it also happens regularly to TMac.

Bad, still over use the ball around the contest and from centre breaks love the long bomb. Melksham is lazy, Lockhart is so far from AFL level

Good, Hannan Chasing and pressure was at AFL level and I’m glad to see that he and Kossie chased multiple players, not single efforts, melk and frittter should take note.

Weid started to impact contests, when the ball was kicked to his advantage or a 50/50 i think he did very well.

Omac was solid allowing May and Lever to play a more attacking role.

Glad to see more handballs to players 5+ meters away running into space, switching play and going slower. Amazing that suddenly we can do this after copping it in the media... it’s like we had a new game plan or one that suddenly worked the week the heat was applied.

Loved the way the team got around Kozzie in the first quarter when i50 could have had a shot for goal.  Instead a pass to (I think) Hannan??? who kicked it.  Did the same at the end with his pass to Harley.

Really good team first play.

If that was an area for him to work on he is a fast learner.  The team getting around him would have been really confidence building.

Yes agree.  Langdon showed why he was recruited.  His run and pace and carry is what we need.  
 

I said it time and time again. Tomlinson is NOT a wingman.  No no no.  He’s a CHF/CHB. He’s endurance is good and mobility for a big guy. But he’s not agile. Not quick.  Of the current stock, Brayshaw would be best option on the other wing although he’s better inside. We are stocked up on inside mids so Brayshaw has to play wing. He’s defensive run needs to improve however.  Other option remains Hunt.  He should push up to the wing as use his pace and long kicking. Although him and Langdon would be hard to distinguish. One might need to visit the barber.

Viney was best on ground.

However, much like our 2018 side his best is when he is full on, throw himself into every contest which is amazing but not easy to sustain for a whole season.

He, like the team as whole need to improve skills and composure so we aren’t just soley relying on brute force and effort to win games.

I thought that too - expecting the free from incorrect disposal / dropping the ball, at least. Apparently, so too did the players of both sides who stayed off the ball - and in that time he ran on for the kick coz he - like everyone else - didn't hear the whistle. Umpires certainly do 'gift' some players at the expense of others...

Uh just woke up with slight hangover to “Aunt Cassie, you’re still here! Let’s play!”

Offensively we have been inconsistent all year, defensively is worth keeping an eye on.

I dont think we've let teams score more that 10 goals and through defence we've managed to stay in touch most of not all games (rd 1 is debatable).

A huge improvement on last year defensively.
