One thing VdB is not is slow. For his size is one of the quickest blokes going around.

Fair enough, I really like his aggression towards the ball & opposition, he just appears slow to me, perhaps it’s that his skills and decision making that give me that impression.

I don't agree.

It's a shared responsibility.

Viney's been doing this for years. That wasn't a one-off.

The onus is on players like Viney, who are our "core", to work on their failures.

It is also on the coaches to identify these failings and work with individual players, and the team as a whole, to stop them from occurring.

That's what I said.  Unless you don't agree that Dusty would have made the right call.

At start of season if you said we lose to:

West Coast in Perth 4-5 goals

Richmond at MCG 4-5 goals

& Geelong at MCG close loss

Beat Carlton

It wouldn’t be the end of the season

Demons win this week after picking Bennell for skill , Weideman marking target & Jetta better decision making! The season will stArt to look different!

These posts are frankly pathetic. You clearly don't watch the games. Last 28 games 2 wins by more than a goal

We're going brilliantly according to you.

Either that or play to your players strengths. I get the Fritsch move to the backline last season out of necessity, but Goody for the sake of his head coaching career needs to stop trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

Lever is a zoning off interceptor so play him as one and don't have Max floating back behind every ball as the intercept

Harmes has been very damaging through the middle play him there and make Viney your principal tagger. Play Gawn, Harmes, Trac, Brayshaw as your starting centreline. Rotate Clarrie through there whilst also consider sending him forward to play Vanders role.

Play forwards who will lead hard up the ground and free up space inside forward 50 to create channels for the others to lead into and if they want to play a loose defender sitting in the hole don't play on hit little 20m passes on the 45 to work into space until someone finds space.

It's up to him and the players as a collective to work this out

Great post as usual mate.

He's said it enough times he believes we've only won 2 of our last 28 games not 7

No I didn’t say we’re going brilliantly, but I don’t think the season is over!
Across the league the standard of many games has been poor, and the Demons have been bog ordinary.

Last weeks team looked bad at selection and performed accordingly!

It can turn quickly. This week the team at least has better structure, and Gold Coast aren’t great they’ve beaten Adelaide & Fremantle who will probably finish 17&18, so the Demons should win!

Previously he was very quick, hasn't looked quick this year. However, watching the game on TV does makes it harder to pick up on the speed and extent of players' running patterns.

Im not really invested in the opinions either way.

Regardless if the opinion is right or wrong there is no need to be thst demeaning.

Just my opinion

Who cares? its not the point I was trying to make and I have no interest in acknowledging anything you say.

You're a bit full of your own self importance aren't you. Trying to force another poster to acknowledge your post. Toddle off now its probably past your bedtime.

Simon can't coach and his team has only won 2 games by more than a goal in the last 28 games.

Fact.

Oh dear, that's embarrasing.

Not only can't you read but you can't add up.

It's really awkward when you lose a debate and then you try to shame the person you're debating with but make a crucial error in your 'facts'

[Hint: there were 23 games in 2019]

Some need to get to the point. Efficiency.  You get the footy and then you must make the decision. It’s this area that we struggle in. Decision making and delivery. Simple but critical.  Up to the coaches to fix and keep the standard. Not just words.  Actions.

But really Pennant you could be a bit more supportive. Jnr has had to deal with a lot of conflicted emotions of late.

  • The season starts with bad loss but Omac plays a terrific game (some say his best) and kills Darling. Gets praise on DL -  Sad. Sad. Confused.
  • After the enforced break Omac gets dropped, seeming proof he is not in our best 22. And we win. But play poorly - Happy. Vindicated. Annoyed.
  • Omac's replacement does not play well against the cats. We lose. Many demonland posters argue it is clear we need Omac back in the team  - Ambivalent. Angry. Baffled.
  • Omac's replacement does not play well against the tigers. We lose. Many demonland posters argue even more forcibly it is clear we need Omac back in the team - Ambivalent. Angry. Conflicted.
  • The conflict grows as it dawns on Jnr that he may  secretly believe we need Omac, that we will be a better team with him in the side, that he is in fact best 22. But denial is a powerful emotion.
  • Omac is selected in the side. We are indeed a better team with him in the side. Omac plays well. The dees win = Confused. Confused. Ambivalent.

So lets be kind. Jnr will have to watch Omac play next week against Frost. It might be too much for him.

Or it might be his chance to finally embrace and fully support Omac.

Asides from this thread being seriously derailed, I think whilst there was some validity to Garry Lyon's 'Red Mist' analogy, he seriously over did it last night to the point where I think he was obviously just trying to draw attention to himself rather than comment on the game.

It was like every time we had a rushed kick under pressure "there's that red mist again" or his other favorite "you can see the tako revving up".

Give us a break Garry last night you shaat me to tears.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
