What an absolute [censored] we find ourselves in.

I wonder if Andrews will take any responsibility for employing an incompetent private security company to manage hotel quarantine (instead of the IDF!) which has started this second wave.

We could have used the Israeli Defence Forces?

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall someone from the club saying that they had a budget to work within (not sure if internally set or determined by the AFL) and that the club decided to use some of it on families instead of the players left behind.

I'll see if I can find any evidence to support my (admittedly dodgy) memory.

Apparently, the bulldogs and north took somewhere between 65 and 90 people (Caro on FC) so there is a bit of inconsistency in what is being said about numbers and limits.

Hawks took the whole list as did Bulldogs.

Hahaha autocorrect at its finest. To be fair, the IDF would have done a far better job in those hotels. Although Israel is back in lockdowns too, so they mustn’t be that great.

Big difference between 65 and 90.

33 players and 32 support staff sounds about right. As I understand it, clubs were allowed 50 people plus players at a game which apparently was enough to allow a few Board members (Edie everywhere springs to mind)

Probably means the Govt is not lifting the crowd size it has allowed to date which is about 400 to 500, halve that for GWS, and you have about 200 slots. Probably 500 members in NSW so objectively the odds are pretty good. Apply MFCSS and it looks grim.

Such is the NSW's government fears of anything Victorian they will probably pass legislation to Melbourne members going to the football,

Hell they might even ask Melbourne fans to leave the state. You all will need a special hand signal and a secret, well ventilated, meeting spot.

I think you're on to something. I would have thought a gameplan which is  "penultimately" good would mean it's the second best plan. In a match with two teams it would mean we are destined to finish second every time. Explains where we are on the ladder.

Penultimate means second last, not second best.

I read an article saying the Cats had also taken the entire playing list into Sydney even though they will be heading to Perth.

While the Dees and the North’s of the world have a smaller budget and group they can take. Imagine getting a decent amount of injuries to a budget team..

Don’t mean to be depressing but Covid is not about to go anywhere. And it’s highly unlikely for there to be a vaccine anytime soon.  This kind of  situation may be The new normal.

I believe the AFL is footing the bill.

I relistened to FC and the numbers given were:  Carlton 80, Richmond and Essendon 60, North 91 (8 families) and Bulldogs 89 (6 families).

Apparently, if new people from Vic enter a hub the whole team is subjected to the 14 day quarantine again so lets hope we and the other clubs who left players behind don't get to many injuries.

For team bonding and morale and fitness of those left behind I would prefer the whole list went as the option seems to have been there.

Maybe they could drop back to 4 star accommodation, or move a suburb back from the beach, to free up some money for the whole list to travel together.

I get injured players not travelling, and possibly those who won't be on the list next year, but Baker (for example) has a contract for next year. What does it say to him that he is not worth being included?

May be all sorts of reasons we dont know about, in any event its done and now unlikely it can be changed in any time less than 2 weeks of complete isolation.

I'd like to think that whatever those reasons are, they were explained to each player individually in a conversation with one or more of the coaches, preferably including Goodwin.

Perhaps the team will be  like the Cleveland Indians side in Major League. Play better the worse the facilities became.

I think I heard they are at the Novotel Manly beach.  I have stayed there.  Two bedroom suites are very good. Assume family guys like Jonesy and Goody are in these suites !! Overlooking the beach. Nice local cafes for the Trac, Brayshaw and other culinary wizards.  Btw Dees could use conference rooms for analysis of poor decision making and turnovers.

Relocate to Manly Boardrider Backpackers Hostel than.  Boys can celebrate Saturday's victory at the Manly Life Saving Club doing the "Stomp".

All within budget and no need for an uber.

indeedy-doody - I'm with you there Uncle - if 33 are going, I make that 12 didn't go, so we need 4 more names.  If, as you say, Sparrow and Jordon have gone then that narrows the field.

Not going:

Injured: KK, Nietschke, Hore, Petty,

"Players including Braydon Preuss, Oskar Baker, Josh Wagner and Corey Wagner have been left behind to conduct intensive coaching with several assistant coaches."

I think it's almost certain one is Bradtke.  If I had to guess the other 3 they would probably be Bedford, Chandler, Dunkley.

But it would be nice to know for sure.

Has anyone sighted Jones? I haven't.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
