Interchange to be Brayshaw, Pickett and Jetta plus one out of the rest for me.

From that extended bench I hope we take in Lockhart, Pickett, Brayshaw, Jetta.

Smith should play forward or warm the bench.

Omitted or managed ? Has the club explained it?

Yep. Goody talked about it in the presser today. Managed.

“Obviously selection’s tight, so we’re still working Harley back to his full fitness and his full match condition,” Goodwin said.

“There’s clearly a lot of expectation on Harley to be in the team every week – that certainly won’t be the case.

“He’s a player that we want to see as a long-term player and … we want to make sure he can sustain the full rigours of an AFL season.

“He’s still working his way back to his full fitness and full form that he knows he’s capable of and we know he’s capable of, and he’s progressing well.

“But clearly we’ve got to continue to limit the expectations of selection every week.”

Gawn said Lockhart was excellent in the intra-club last week , so it will be interesting if they play him.

Yep, it’s on the website

Hmm interesting that Lockhart is brought in and Jetta on the extended bench.....

I expect only one of Lockhart/Jetta to get a spot. Could be in for a surprise here. I don't expect to see Hibberd.

I also expect Jackson and Pickett to play.

I'm therefore guessing we'll see a bench of Jackson, PIckett, Lockhart/Jetta and Brayshaw.

ANB, Hibberd, Jones and Lockhart/Jetta to miss.

The only one of the 8 interchange players guaranteed to play is Kozzie.

We have some regulars on thin ice, thats for sure.

I reckon Jetta, Kozzy, Lockhart and Brayshaw from that extended bench

Bennell clearly managed and not omitted

They have only had 1 game back geez, I think thin ice is a stretch.

Absolutely laughable... even by MFC standards Bennell dropped from..a side that didn't even play..... A non appearance.VS Essendive!! Garbage selection if he doesn't play.  [censored] MFC CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!??

Managed after one game and a week of ... Something is seriously amiss!

I wonder how much Match Committee thought the drop off against Carlton was brought about by having too many "new" players playing at once. Bringing Pickett in would make that worse unless a "new" player goes out. Of the newbies, it's hard to make a case that Bennell should stay in ahead of Jackson (for structure reasons) and Rivers (performance and position)

The club has said that Bennell was left out as he’s not quite at match fitness and is still being managed.  Fair enough considering he only managed 50% game time in round two.  He’s building.

he played last week and he is long-term...calm down

If Gawn can dominate the ruck we should control the game. Our forward line is a touch shaky but we can expose their backline if we lower the eyes going inside 50

Changes from the proposed Round 3 side:

Smith takes Jetta's spot in the 18, putting Jetta on the extended bench

vandenBerg takes Brayshaw's spot in the 18, putting Brayshaw on the extended bench

Hannan moves from the bench into the starting 18

Bennell moves from starting 18 to being dropped

Lockhart takes Bennell's spot in the 22

He hasn't been named on interchange bench

The changes are from Round 2, not Round 3.

And he's not named on the interchange bench.

Why anyone is surprised at Bennell being managed is beyond me.

You are kidding!! How can a player be selected in a non game and then be dropped?? Nope beggars belief!

On what basis does one week of not playing, and then training be "Managed"??

What has he done or not done to be dropped??

Is anyone else with me here??

As Brayshaw played all of the interclub match in the 'white' shorts while the selected team played at least half of it in the blue shorts, I wouldn't be surprised to see him dropped.  Hope I'm wrong

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
