why do you think that wwsw.

Not disagreeing but there is a distinct lack of TV product simply because TV shows are not being made.

Sport should be at a premium.

all the journos are running with it, so i'm presuming it's been leaked by head office

the afl are concerned about maximising the crowds as they'll get the money from the broadcasters no matter when the games are shown - what they want is the crowds back in victoria

NRL etc will eat their TV lunch if they don't get in the water

Yeah and now that the case numbers are dropping the good old Vic premier (whose name I will not utter)  is urging more people to go get tested ... so sadly predictable.  The guy looked panicked up there.   Cant have those cases numbers coming down, can we?

I think the vast majority of people have woken up finally.

Please DO NOT get tested unless you want to be locked inside forever.

This sort of conspiracy theory drivel is a solid contributor to the malaise this state is currently in.

We'd all be in a better place if there were drastically fewer people like you.

The every day footy is obviously a function of the times but I have no issue with weekly Monday and Thursday games with special event games on other week nights.

Crowd attendance is secondary these days to what the media companies will pay.  (yes I know some may complain).

Game starting times and mid game breaks may need to be reviewed to ensure the games are finished before 10pm. (Perhaps this will mean the continuance of 16 minute quarters.)

More evening product opens up the possibility of other media companies paying for particular slots. Example Optus could have Monday night leaving Thursday and Sunday as  Foxtel nights. FTA would get Friday and Saturday.

From a personal viewpoint I am still watching three games a week. One thing I do is watch on half hour delay thus allowing the Kayo 30 second FF to eliminate stoppages and breaks between goals etc.

Yep me too, helps with getting through the game quicker as well as the benefit of watching uninterrupted after the kids have gone to bed. Skip through goals and quarter time/half time and the game goes really quick. Just have to avoid the msgs on the phone in case the extended family is watching and decides to give away the result in a group chat.

Actually did not see that news about the delayed start until now so that does change a few things yeah. I'd say at this stage everything is on the table. Maybe even more games with shorter quarters, who knows..

Yep

All the talk coming out of the aflpa is that they're happy to have more games and the frenzy as long as shorter quarters remain

AMEN!

Get tested, stay home, STFU.

The talk-back radio people on here should push the agenda for longer quarters during the finals. There's no good reason for the games to remain shortened come the finals and the AFL might cave if there's a ground-swell of public opinion and the broadcasters catch on (with opposition fans unaware that there's a good argument to be made that it will significantly benefit us sinister laugh).

Gold. Love it.

I am going to get that slogan printed on a T shirt. Or even better some masks

Back on the topic of the fixture , I am really hoping we plan and implement an intentional policy of resting and rotating players for our games against Freo and the Swans in Cairns, comming off 4 - 5 dayish breaks and playing in Alice.  Really do think theI do think it's been apparent that even with reduced game time, the shorter breaks take the edge off teams and the hotter/humid weather in these parts up North will sap the players comming of such short breaks.

We have plenty of quality players to bring into the side fresh, that I don't think it will be big step back in terms of the quality of the team we put on the park.  Particularly if we can get over the Bulldogs and Saints in the next few weeks, I think we would be in a great position to make sure we were managing the list to be fit, fresh and raring to have a red hot crack at finals, without risking a West Coast prelim style blowup.

I didn't get tickets but Eddie Betts jogged past me tonight.*

I thought he was maybe an old friend and gave him one of those non-committal maybe-recognition nods.

He returned it with a friendly wry smile. I think he had been doing a decent job of going incognito until then.

I only realised it was Eddie a few seconds later. He's older-looking and taller than I imagined.

And then it clicked they were playing here on Friday. I wish I got the chance to ask him about his shorts.

He was jogging along an uneven cement footpath beside a busy road. Seems strange to me.

Surely given that cases are heading in the right direction and us learning from our fatal mistakes between the first and the second wave, we''ll have games with 25-50% capacity next year in Victoria, starting from March or April. Not June as Wilson is fear mongering.

We can't just spend the rest of our lives locked up.

We'd all be in a better place if the premier hired competent people for hotel quarantine security.

And as for the 'conspiracy theory' label (how original by the way),  I and others were called conspiracy theorists months ago for saying they will make the vaccine mandatory.  Lo and behold,  there was our Prime Minister all over TV  yesterday talking about mandatory vaccinations.

If you can't see whats going on by now you have no hope.

That may well be correct, but the two aren't mutually exclusive.

You don't escape being a conspiracy theorist simply because it's an unoriginal term.

Nothing is "going on" other than you, and people like you, making everyone's lives unnecessarily more difficult than they otherwise already are.

Vaccines SHOULD be mandatory unless you have a medical reason.

It is because we make it difficult for people not to vaccinate that we are free from literally hundreds of deadly but preventable diseases.

Anyone who doesn't vaccinate their children is a goddamn crap parent. It is the same as not feeding or educating your children. Abuse.

Anyway I'm going to stop being baited or I will literally lose my damn mind.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
