Which is why it is good it is at metricon station on the gold coast.

If our accommodation is on the gold coast (as I assume it will be) the lions players will have a much longer, and more annoying, commute.

A 1hr commute in Qld is like driving to the corner store. Won't be an issue.

Given it looks like being an 18 round season, with 10 teams still to have a bye, it will be in the Round from 13 to 18 that has no byes. Would think Round 18 is most likely.

Well done to Burgess / Goody etc for being so professional, having already practised and prepared for the 4 day breaks during the COVID down time.

We have a young team, so aside from Bennell, Jones, Jetta etc. I would expect the best 22 to play each week.  we could do some damage this year.

Port game is now at 7.50, not 8.10. Carlton/Hawthorn moved to Friday.

I like the attitude that we pic the best team and continue to play anyone, anywhere and at anytime. Goody did say if players pulled up sore they would be rested.

Also we can’t afford to rest our best players given where we are at.

Great, so I can get to the pub 20 mins earlier after the game. Wahoo.

Given how much we travel in the next 4 weeks I hope that it is recognised by the AFL and we travel a lot less in the next lot of rounds released.  Hopefully most games will be at the Gabba and Metricon

Im sure the pies and cats would expect that to.

I assume you don't live in Victoria. Because my first thought was, great, 20 minutes more on the couch.

What is this ‘pub’ you speak of?

triggers a distant memory

Apparently it is a place, similar to a ye olde tavern of yore, where shockingly people gather in large numbers, in close proximity to imbibe dangerous liquor.

You can but laugh at such a concept.

Personally I’m pretty happy with those times, living in the UK it means I do t have to wake up at 4am to watch the games!

nah, it's where you go see some people, elevated above others, strumming stringed instruments and thumping skins drawn tight to pound out a rhythm

tis a laughable concept, verily

Finally someone acknowledges our hard fixture! Hasn't rated a mention on 360 or On The Couch it was all about the Pies Cats and Bulldogs! Cats have a rough stretch but the only have to jump on a plane once from WA to Brisbane. It is rough being on a 4 day break but nowhere near as bad as what we've copped

The Age is reporting that two teams will move to Cairns.

"Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed on Friday the deal had been struck with the AFL and the matches will be played at the 13,500-seat Cazaly’s Stadium"two-afl-teams-moving-to-cairns

“It will be at the back end of this block that finishes around August 20. I think a couple of clubs will go there for three to four weeks"McLachlan

It won't be an SA or WA team as they did their 'hubs'.  Surely, we can't be one of the teams. ?

The best way to avoid Cairns is to win games.  The AFL will probably send teams out of finals contention...

We are supposedly playing in Alice so maybe not a candidate for Cairns but it may come down to which state goverment the AFL is more beholden to.

I think I'm over it now.  Just take each game as it comes.

Edit:  “Three AFL Premiership games will be played at Cazaly’s Stadium and two clubs will relocate to Cairns temporarily with strict quarantine protocols and the COVID Safe Industry Plan in place,”afl-headed-to-cairns

So two teams will hub there and other teams will FIFO to Cairns.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
