This is a bit nuts. Why wouldn't they keep both Richmond and us in their current states so that we can play GWS and they play Brisbane ? Hawthorn are staying in Sydney to play the Swans after their game against us. Baffling.

This might explain the odd location

Except that Hawthorn are staying there to play the Swans at the SCG.

Yes, but then will be on the plane to Perth.

Ah! I see BBP. Is that for certain ? Still don't see why we can't stay for at least another week as well and play the Giants. We can't be flying up to Coolangatta just for the day surely if it's our home game.

So  our Sydney and GWS games  will be played in Queensland then?

Does Sunday night count as a marquee prime-time time slot?

in these days of lockdown I think it does.

Strangely enough this year the "big" game is probably Thursday night

PS... Was anyone not at the Cross Roads hotel? Must be a big pub

We were originally meant to play Brisbane on Friday night at the Gabba.

I hope we are given at least 1 Friday night game this year but I guess we'll have to earn it first. Rolling fixtures at least allow us to audition.

No, but I use to go to the Crossroads dance in Sunshine in the late sixties.

The swans are decimated by injuries would have loved them after the Hawks now we have to beat the lions first?

Sounds like it. Would be a great result for them to lose the home advantage

Excellent. We play in QLD against a QLD team. Sure it’s not their ground but it’s a homely feel. Hardly a neutral or beneficial outcome. Lions will drive down the pacific hwy in an hour and be home before 11.

So far 1 home, 2 away and 5 neutral

Eagles away in Perth

Blues away at Marvel Docklands

Bombers “away” MCG - to be rescheduled at new venue and date

Cats home MCG

Tigers “home” MCG

Suns “home” at Giants Stadium

Hawks “away” at Giants Stadium

Lions “home” at Metricon GC

Yet to play - Swans, Giants, Dockers, Saints, Kangas, Crows, Power, Pies, Bulldogs and the Bombers game to be rescheduled

Hope we get to stay in GC for the next 3-4 games to play Bulldogs, Kangas, Swans and Saints.

Disappointing that we had a Friday night taken us off, but winning is the priority and we have a better chance of beating Brisbane at Metricon than at the GABBA.

Agree. Meanwhile Essendon who continue to get kissed on the [censored] with this years fixture are off to Adelaide to play the crows... AFL's pet team.

That only looks unfair because the Adelaide side happens to be hot garbage this year. Most years that would be an extremely tough assignment.

I really doubt the AFL has room to consider the strengths of the teams playing each other for individual matches, where they have to somehow have to orchestrate a season where everyone plays everyone with only 3 cities available. We’ll see if we’re still saying how lucky Essendon are when they end up playing a home game in Perth against West Coast.

Anyone know why Tasmania isn’t being used? I assume it is border policy related.

Given that there are now night games Thursday to Monday inclusive is it too much for our sponsors to expect some night time FTA cover.

Another Sunday afternoon game I think against the Hawks... grrrrrr

I would have thought FTA Sunday afternoon would rate quite well at the moment given the restrictions on alternative things to do, especially in Victoria.

As a Queenslander I'm happy to at least be given the oppertunity to watch the side live once this year.  But the timing on a Sunday night is not great.  The Gold Coast is almost like taking the trip down to Kadinia park form Melbourne from where I live.  Would have been much better on a Saturday afternoon or even played at the Gabba.

Everyone plays everyone once this year. While it would be nice to have a few 'soft' games in a row to get momentum, all this means is that our second half of the draw will be easier leading into finals.

My guess is that NSW is on the verge of a second wave and the AFL is hightailing out of there ASAP.

Brisbane in Brisbane is probably the hardest game you could get at the moment. Good test for us to see where we really are at.

The way things are moving we will be lucky to be moving out..

Might have to move out sooner & don't be surprised if we don't play in Sydney this week.

Qld are already shutting off parts of Sydney.

Hi Rjay. I hadn't realised that the QLD government were moving on the situation in NSW this quickly. I guess what baffled me was the AFL putting a strategy in place to take us out of that state whilst simultaneously flying Richmond into NSW to play GWS. Hawthorn are also staying there for another week. We could have just as easily played the Giants and flown to QLD a week later if the situation required it.

My guess is they are already crunching the numbers on moving out of NSW in the next 24 hours.

Much easier to locate everyone in Qld and then if you really want games in Sydney fifo on same day.

SA just announced they would not be opening borders to NSW residents next week as previously planned.

Which is why it is good it is at metricon station on the gold coast.

If our accommodation is on the gold coast (as I assume it will be) the lions players will have a much longer, and more annoying, commute.
