That could turn out to be a problem going forward, if we are going to give games to guys who are out of form, or even past it.

Nev's last 2 games have been poor and he looks very slow.

Not saying he is past it, but he is certainly past his best footy.

But he wasn't alone on saturday, with a number of our players playing very poorly.

you can only go on this past game as there was such a large break.  Even out of form players can still be in the right positions,  and run to the right spots.

Going Too inexperienced all at once,  isn't a good thing.

If we persist 3 flankers in Harmes, Salem and Rivers/Lockhart for more linebreaking run from the backline then it might be Hibberd and Jetta competing for the one lockdown small job. Hibberd has the extra height and speed defensively and more attacking drive (which isn't always good if his disposal is shot) but close checking isn't his strong suit. It feels like it's either one or the other right now.

It would be nice to go out and try to win the game. It was like watching a soccer game where one side tries to protect a1 nil lead.

Beautifully stated.

He was a GWS academy player. We could never have got him.

Which there is absolutely no excuse for.

Inexperience and immaturity. Running hot/cold, inability to sustain a high-level performance, lack of consistency ... all the classic signs, and not just in footy either.

What part of "Carlton started playing better and we started playing worse" is so difficult for people to grasp?

Nothing to do with Goodwin and the coaches. Except the first quarter, when the players did what they were supposed to.

(Though Carlton are a much better side than people are giving them credit for, and on paper at least, a better side than us.)

Putting all of this on Goody is a bit rough.  Now let’s see how the group responds to the reviews etc.  if it was a 5% drop off mentally (and that is enough to cause the horrendous scenes with Carlton picking up by at least the same amount), how are they going to not let that happen again?

if it keeps happening it is on the players and Goody.

we have a better list than Carlton. our best should beat them easily. we just stopped. and still won.

The results of the last two would suggest Carlton have nearly as much talent as us. 2019 we fell in by 9 points after Carlton kicked poorly. This year we fell in by 1 point after Carlton kicked poorly. Both games we played better in the first half and they in the second half. Nothing about those two match ups tells me we have a better list. Last year we finished second last, we won 5 games last year they won 7. This year? Let's see at season's end.

Lots of question marks on Goodwin....

1 Game plan for 6,6,6 not working

2 Jetta playing on a forward 2 ft taller?? why not Lever or May who we gave the farm for

3 Why Tom Mac not starting @ FF???

4 Continue kicking 1vs 2/3

5 Will survive only because no $$ to pay him out

Just a few observations after watching the first half again... (not to say these points applied to the second half!)

McDonald played quite well.

Jetta also managed to keep his Giant from doing any real damage (coaching masterstroke at that point!)

We don't need any more one dimensional inside mids. Green is - and will be - a good extractor. But we aren't exactly deficient in that area. I was always on the fence about drafting Jackson, but I see the merit in it. Green, not so much. We need speed around stoppages, not more extractors who become a weakness when they don't have the football.

Fair enough KDA.  I was more responding to the OP's suggestion that we were at least one mid short on rotations not so much a criticism of Jackson himself who hopefully in his own right/role will turn out to be a valuable asset to the club.  I do feel we are still a classy ball using / evasive mid short in the middle at this point.

He is playing in the back line RN.

Assume this is a sarcastic OP but hard to tell

we played a bottom team and couldn't stop them coming back from 7 goals to nil. terrible coaching. I've been a Goody supporter but my patience is running out quickly

Many things have to be trialled this year. It is a great opportunity for Goodwin to bring out the competitive beast in the boys to elicit the exacting complexities of his mantra and its purpose - and for the boys to relish in the challenge so dictated by the coach for the glory of the Premiership Cup and the mystic Hope Eternal.

Goody knew what he was doing - it just took us a while to catch on to his dream (about three days, actually). All is forgiven, now. He can continue to motor happily in his new sponsored Jaguar as an erstwhile Royal might,.

Now that he has implemented the 'wipe your backside and hang in there' strategy ... ffs' (otherwise known as 'Goody Footy 101', we don't have to do that trick ever again (thank Heavens). Just cannot wait for the surprises and the gross advantages of Goody's revised mental toil and get a glimpse of his even newer arsenal of tricks against Essendon, next match. It will go down in history as 'Goody Footy 201'. 'Bound to be a crowd pleaser!

I don't put it on Goodwin, and the Blues definitely lifted. The problem was our intensity (or lack thereof) after quarter time and the inability of us to wrest back momentum. For me that is on the players/senior leaders and not the coach but I still think it was a concern. Happy to see how they go over the next few weeks though - if we have 3 more 1 pt wins in a similar manner I won't be too upset!

It's a sci-fi footy novel that chronicles the journey of a young Paul Roos repaired Droid named Goody3000 on his journey to self awareness and mastery of a local sport on a planet in the Goldilocks zone of a star system in the milky way galaxy.
