Disappointing from both players, I was young once and did stupid things, so understand but I wasn't in their position. Not a hanging offence but still a mark against them

Some of the comments on here toward Spargo are disgraceful and some of you should hang your heads in shame.

Nobody should ever wish anything but the best for the players

Spargo was ordinary last season like the rest of our team. He had a pretty good first season in 2018 and kicked two goals on debut and had 18 touches. Short memories.

Yes ET, that is correct he had a very good 1st season but either way didn't deserve some of the responses but BBP and others of his ilk just continues to show a complete lack of class

I still don't know why spargo got 2 weeks whilst everyone else got 1 week

"Spargo was invited by a friend to a house last week and asked Pickett to come along.

The AFL investigators agreed with the club that Spargo's punishment should be greater than Pickett's, given he was both the senior player and the one who asked Pickett to come with him.

The club became aware of the matter this week but it wasn't because the players came forward.

Once Melbourne officials became aware of the situation, they contacted the AFL."

ok, but doesn't explain why ollie wines only got 1. he's much more senior than spargo and is vice-captain of his club

just trying to understand afl logic ( i know there is no answer to that)

Just guessing, but possibly the difference between an innocent mistake and leading someone else to make a mistake?

despite the official reasons it may be as simple as that a one week suspension for Charlie was irrelevant as he was not selected.

One could not officially say that so they drum up another reason. It now makes 2 weeks the base.

Only if you play for one of the poorer clubs DJ.

Who cares what Spargo gets he is not best 30.

The AFL logic is always the same the players from teams with big patronige and as a result  more ratings get softer penalities than the clubs like Melbourne. How else do explain Burgoyne getting only a fine?

yes, afl logic = oxymoron

Pickett got a week for going to the party.
Spargo got one week for going and one week for taking Pickett.

Spargo needs a huge kick up the backside. He's turning in to the classic MFC private school kid who's happy collecting a few years of cheques without fulfilling his potential.

It's very disappointing, from Spargo.   I have been supporting him thru, and, disappointed.

They shouldn't be going to location with multiple other people, I would imagine that this was something made pretty plain and simple to them. It was a silly breach by Spargs and Kozzie, I didn't realise that it was Spargo that initiated it so his higher suspension makes more sense now. That said I also think it's double standards that he gets two weeks and Wines (who is much more senior than either of them) invites media over to his house to do an interview.

What about if you had a tennis “tournament” with a group of 20 mates... and beers after? That’s ok?

...and maybe they could do an interview for 7 sport about the tennis to finish it off.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
