Can we renogiate Lever's salary.

His last 2 seasons at Adelaide he averaged close to 6 marks and 16 disposals a game.

This year in 15 games for us that has dropped to just under 10 disposals and 4 marks. His tackle count has gone down as well.

I suppose May has been doing the most of the work.

Don't agree

Both will be better next year agsin

its not our defence it's been tight and Petty or another third tall ( not Hore) would be good so Petty  can go forward.

Seriously if Petty and Lockhart are not in the best 22 there is very little hope of a better season AND Jordan, Bedford or Baker would be better Options surely than AVB who sadly is only a shadow of his best.

At least a couple of strategic trades Viz Zac Williams and say Narkle or similar would benefit the team.

Very little culling of the list also looking at Reserves. Smith KK Jets (retire) ANB Hannan have proved this season that They are not up to it.

Abd the one big addition that would solve many problems is a new Coach IMO the best available by far is Ross Lyon And he can bring his assistants!! All of them.

Then maybe 2021 could be the season we all crave for.

Petty is coming back from a serious groin injury and I doubt Lockhart will make much of a difference to the 2021 side he hasn't set the world on fire yet. I'd give Smith a 1 year contract remember he missed a year with groin problems. Jetta and KK have one more year on their contract and so has ANB I still think Hannan is handy depth.

Remember we can't get rid of everybody 4 picks will get us up to 61 I doubt that there would be any exceptional talent after that. ANB and Preuss will be put on the trade table for picks hopefully below that and Tommy, Brayshaw, Harmes and Vanders might also be on the table.

What's the 61 you quote Werridee?

yes May be a couple but I would keep young types likeBaker Bedford and Dunkley in lieu of Hannan and ANB who ate really not going to inprove much.

Lockhart has had a good developmental season and should be playing these last games. his style is what we need run and chase and break lines (like Rivers) .

Our developmental coaching is very poor even if Covid training restrictions are factored in.

Trac and Locky plus May and Lever ( who have plenty of ability anyway  ) are improvements. Jacko and Kossuexwill be good and Rivers Langdon and Maybe Tommo Are stars for the long haul.

Dont trade Angus get new coaches. RossLyon eg. And assistants.

Be more creative eg Smith forward etc.

Pick 61 in the draft

Just one question can we pick up next gen academy player Smith as a rookie if he doesn't get picked up in the draft?

Yes, but highly doubt we will.

He is pretty average.

Too many rejects for mine. How are we suppose to get them? Witherden interests me but the rest I wouldn't bother with.

i dont see rejects i see value and players desperate for opportunity, you've only improved our best 22 by one player and i dont think we're really in the race for williams and atkins isnt a lock for 22 either. + ur bench is 4 inside mids which doesnt work.

Polec 4th rounder north happy to offload

Witherden 3rd (see lewy taylor 2019) Wright 2021-3rd (salary% paid)

Cumming 3rd (see setterfield, bonar) Narkle late2nd

we can easily make that happen if we show ambition so yeh i gotta admit its probably very unrealistic but i see all of them as upgrades on our list and nearly undroppable for us based on form at other clubs and our current options

Why would you want Wright in front of Jackson?

i want quality depth and jackson is only 19 he cant carry a forward line on his own. Jackson is versatile that we could play all 3. im not saying he doesnt get a game all season but maybe he plays 12-15 games

We need to desperately address our run and polish and look to improve our key position stock without spending a fortune.

Saad, Williams, Finlayson should be our priorities as well as Polec on a suitable wage.

Of others out  of contract Atkins, Cumming, Mihocek, Cedric Cox, Narkle

I am sure other names will come up in contract but the above is based on OOC except Polec.

After all the plans all the picks all the money spent

We are back to where we started

Who ever signed off a 4 year deal to a rookie coach should be condemned

ratkins is going to gc17 so forget him

not sure how much room we can in our cap to entice the likes of williams in without shedding one - or more - of viney, brayshaw, and t mac

in an ideal world we'd be adding at least two of williams, witherden, polec, cumming, narkle

This comment is probably not helpful but I’m hearing some rumours around player discontent and wanting out.  Fingers crossed it’s not true but if it is and with the caliber of player then I’m out also.

In his last two seasons at Adelaide they finished 5th (16-6) and then made the GF.

It's a bit chicken and egg, but I'm sure Lever's stats were easier to accumulate in a winning side than in this year's 2020 side. Plus those stats don't take into account the 20% reduction in game time.

And the last bit about "taking hold and springing from the backline and setting up our mids" - since when was that Lever's role?

But more importantly, he's actually been good for us most of the year. There is a large anti-Lever bias on here: people disappointed he isn't reaching some sort of god-like level of football or want a draft pick back or something, without actually appreciating the reality that Lever's played well.

Im not anti Lever. I just dont think he is playing his best footy.

Thats not saying he is not good. Far from it.

I was tongue in cheek suggesting we need more from him bacause firstly: we do

Secondly: Im pretty sure he can play better.

May has often been the last man standing so I am suggesting that Lever can be a prime mover of the two and send us forward with some good intercept marking and some precision kicking. More of which I saw from him at Adelaide.

Also not sure if your theory of gathering more possessions is easier in a better team when you are a defender.

Your correct in the shorter games however.

I would like Josh Daicos on opposing wing to Langdon. Pipe dream! ? ?‍♂️ ?

Don't expect  much in the draft for Preuss ,ANB, younger Mcdonald. I recon it will be 4 th rounder , 4th rounder and 5th rounder respectively. younger mac at best rookie list . We have to trade or get rid of Viney or Brayshaw, as proven that they cannot play in the one side. Personally I hope they both leave. If we don't trade T.Mac then we are unlikely to get a key forward player. Our list as it stands is not a top four side. Rivers could end up with second year "blues" next year. OR he might be our solution in the forward line. fingers crossed.

Interesting to see how they view Chandler. He was a bouncy little forward pocket as a junior. Wasn’t expecting him to get drafted or rookied to be honest.

Tried him as forward pocket in a game in 2019 and he seemed ok albeit limited ability to get the footy. They did play him apparently as a back pocket in the scratch matches this year.  At 174cms, he needs more than energy to stay on the list. I can’t see us having Kossy, Bedford, Spargo and Chandler.   I think he will probably get delisted but it’s tough given the  list cuts and inability to play a regular season.

Status of our OOC players: re-sign-or-let-go-your-club-s-out-of-contract-players

(I've edited out recent changes announced)

Out of Contract:  Toby Bedford, Mitch Brown, Kade Chandler,  Mitch Hannan, Michael Hibberd, Marty Hore, Jayden Hunt, Nathan Jones, James Jordon, Jay Lockhart, Oscar McDonald, Aaron Nietschke, Charlie Spargo, Jack Viney.

Summary:

  • Viney still unsigned.
  • Jones future unclear.
  • Hibberd will want multiple years.
  • Bedford will stay but rival clubs interested.
  • Oscar is waiting for an offer.
  • Nietschke has been guaranteed a deal for 2021

I had thought a year by year contract would be the way to go with Hibberd.

Would really like to see Lockhart signed up.  He had a pretty good year until Rivers took his spot.  Would still be very good back up in that small defender role especially with Jetta slowing down.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
