Now its a given, involve us in 15 games at the G and 1.2 million will walk through the turnstiles. its why Essendon and Carlton want more games at the G so they can do similar 

 

We got a glimpse of what this could look like for the MFC at the end of 2018. the club needs to consistently perform.

I propose that on game days, affiliated pubs could add a small but significant surcharge to food and drinks to be donated to the club. Fans could gather knowing they were helping the club with each sip. Might add up...

Story in the Age about AFL resisting calls from their broadcasters for a reduction in the rights deal.

At the very least it signals no increase.

It's a fair point you make.

Since 2018, we've been pathetic in the marquee blockbusters against Collingwood and Richmond and haven't done the events any justice.

The last two Anzac eve games have been a complete yawn fest for the general viewer after an exciting 2017 game.

The AFL has done their part in granting us the public holiday blockbusters but we haven't held our end of the bargain.

And yes, we showed the world what a power house we could possible become in 2018. We outnumbered Hawthorn supporters in a final and well out numbered Geelong supporters!

The Afl draw will always punish smaller clubs as there is no integrity in the competition! How can there be?? When you don’t play each other twice, when the draw is geared around tv ratings & bigger clubs playing in prime time. Kudos to clubs who manage their clubs well and have built their war chest vs the MFC who continued to have debt demolitions for the past decade...

But we don’t have to be a small club. It is we, that put us in that position. 
That is the crux. I am sure the AFL would love a strong MFC, but we are the only ones who can make it happen. 
If the MFC make September, we pull a big crowd. 
But that same crowd are sick and tired of losing...

Fully agree with this SWYL. I also think that the way the club is talking internally is that of a big club, but we need to back it up on the field this season, and each season thereafter.

Geelong have just finished a fundraiser to wipe out debt , they may have to go again, who knows. A lot of clubs have gone to their members over the last 25 years to fund debt repayments. The MFC haven't had one for a number of years.

It is an idea to explore especially for interstate teams. It has been attempted with the greatest degree of incompetence imaginable at the Bentleigh Club

Absolutely Chook, talking won’t help us anymore, and nor it should. 
Results onfield are what people turn the TV on to watch, the talk starts the day after.

If the AFL pursue policies of "revenue maximisation" (ie geared around TV ratings and crowds) which favour some clubs above others then they owe it to the clubs who are disadvantaged to employ revenue sharing across the competition. The "compensation" we and others receive is inadequate and ensures we are beholden to the AFL. If they decide to pull that on a whim we are stuffed. These policies have long term implications on things like sponsorship, game day revenue, support base etc and have been going on for around 25 years now.

The reality is that we will not be able to challenge the power clubs for many years. It would require 10-20 years of success.

The aim over the next five years should be to break out of the bottom bracket and move into the next bracket. The immediate goal should be to equal if not move ahead of Carlton and the Bulldogs both on and off field. I'm not sure we have the Board or the coach to achieve this but for once we do have the players. By pursuing a training ground etc in the Jolimont park precinct demonstrated that the Board lacked knowledge of realities.If we had adopted the Gosch's Paddock initiative three years ago it would be well in progress now if not completed.

Coaching.... well we all know that story

So the club has to get better onfield, that should be ingrained into every employee. 
We will get exposure if we start winning, but we are disposable if we keep failing. 
i do not blame the AFL for that. The choice is ours. The players must be prepared and coached to handle the job.

Agree but my point is more towards the integrity of the draw which can be favourable to certain clubs... ultimately up to the clubs to be successful off & on the field via good mgt etc. Hawks after the failed merger went forward with great financial success well prior to winning the 4 flags .. Mfc went around in circles with band aid approaches.. can’t change the past let’s hope they can set the future

and why has our supporter base not grown incrementally over the last fifty years. Atrocious on field performance accompanied by lacklustre leadership.

It will take 10-20 years to have much impact supporter wise.

Here's a suggestion offer very cheap memberships ($20) to MCC members who support MFC.

Impact we might have more "members" than Carlton = Improved perception on size and following. Cost at best.. neutral

The integrity of the draw is simple. The AFL put the biggest drawing games on in the most popular spots. They don’t hide that fact. We don’t make the grade, because we don’t win enough. We also lose very big reasnoably often. 
It is entirely up to the MFC to pull itself into the Big League, just like Whorethorn did in the 60’s

It can be done, the jury is out on the current coach though.... 2019 was very damaging

Here is another suggestion.  Move our game day club rooms to the Southern stand,   and have the 1/4 time,  & 3/4 time  address,  over on the Southern side.

Access to the rooms after the game,  for members.

Agree but during that 20 years you need three flags and five more finals appearances with only one or two years in the bottom four.

yeah nice post Clint.

I have attempted to purchase some Murch on the club website, but the voucher i chose to get with my membership isnt accepted when i go to the online shop to buy my Down jacket and a cap for my daughter. Im not asking for anything more than the voucher to work so i can get some club stuff to wear

I then, like every other member recieved an email from the club which i attach here.......

Then i sent an email stating i not only didnt want a refund, but wanted to make a (very modest) donation on top of my membership to help MFC out. the following reply came from the Club....

 I saw that i had a missed call on my mobile phone a few days later, but dont know who it was from.

We really do need to be more proactive if we are to come out of this bloody Virus lockdown in a survivable position.
