Round 1 Team

My guess:

B: Whelan Carroll Holland

HB: Frawley Rivers Bell

C: Johnstone McLean Green

HF: Yze Miller Pickett

FF: Robertson Neitz Davey

Foll: White Jones Bruce

Int: Jamar Bate C Johnson McDonald

Need the backline height for Gehrig, Reiwoldt and Koschitzke. Frawley will become this year's version of Bartram, play from the opening round and cement his place as a back with height and pace. Watch for Rivers to sneak forward.

Not bad that Sylvia, Dunn, Bartram and Moloney aren't in that team.

My mail from a reliable source is (quote) 'Yze is causing problems as won't play for Sandy because of the consecutive games record'

That can't be true but if it was Yze should immediately be delisted....immediately.

Nothing like cutting your nose off despite your face.

Should we fine him as well?

Surely if it is true, the Club will handle the matter far more responsibly.

Round one we still need to get through saturday with no injuries but I would like to see the below line up

B:Whelan Carroll Ferguson

HB:Biz Rivers Bell

C: Green Mclean CJ

HF: Robertson Bate Bruce

FF: Davey Neitz Yze

R: White McDonald Jones

Int: Jamar, Johnstone, Pickett, Brown

Why do we need to play a big CHF?

If Robbo is fit push him out to the HFF, Bate to play a similar role to O'Keefe from Sydney, a hard running CHF that plays more like a midfielder and have Bruce on the other side these three are all about 190cm and can run especially Bate and Bruce not to many defenders would have the stamina to run with these two all day. To mix it up during the game Neita can come out to CHF and Robbo back to FF.

Pickett to pinch hit HFF 5-10min burst.

A great decision having Bate at CHF. On the other hand, a shocking decision to leave Johnstone on the bench. 10 minutes into the opening quarter, we are 3 goals down and u ponder "why the hell would did we have arguably our best player on the bench?"

your idea has merit but as as you (and correctly i might add) liken the role to a swans player one must take into account the ground being played on. on the scg and smaller grounds it might work just as sydney have done, but on the wider expanses of the 'G miller will be better suited to the role.

The more i think about it, i really think on a dry day playing miller and dunn may work, because they hardly play as conventional CHF's, rather both like flankers, one who runs up the ground, who stays around 50.

for the saints game i would play miller. round 1, bodies going everywhere, miller wont take a step back (probably do something stupid in fact). he also gives us a bit of cover given the tall nature of the teams that the saints will likely play if something bad happens down back.

as for johnno starting on the bench, i dont see why it wouldnt happen seeing as though it was the case more often than not last year.

Nothing wrong with TJ starting on the bench in most games.

He can assess how the games going, and then give us some creative drive off half back/wing midway through the first quarter and hopefully set up some goals as a fresh player.

If that is the case then I have lost all faith in ND.

Anyway Stynes deserves to keep his record. I don't think he ever had a form slump. He gave so much more to our team than Yze. It might sound a bit dramatic but if Yze does get the record this year i'm gonna boycott that game, out of respect to the champion that deserves to keep it.

I would always be careful about placing any weight on posters who brandish facts based on a reliable "sauce". Caveat emptor.

It's certainly going to be interesting who of Bizzell, Holland, Miller, Ward, Yze, Brown, Godfrey, Pickett and Ferguson play ...

They are the big headaches for mine. Add Moloney, CJ, Bartram and Buckley to that list perhaps. The worrying thing is that I'm not particularly confident with ANY of them. CJ has earned a spot, and you'd select Moloney and Pickett based on the fact that they both need more footy to run into form and fitness. Each match they play is one less before they hit peak form. But it's guys like Holland, Ferguson, and the Ward/Brown/Yze/Bizzell nexus that make me nervous.

Here's a feasible R1 team of currently available players that doesn't include any of them:

Whelan Carroll Bell

Frawley Rivers Bartram

Johnstone McLean Green

Bate Dunn C.Johnson

Davey Neitz Robertson

White Bruce McDonald

Jamar Jones Moloney Buckley

Agreed.

Assuming he gets through Saturday's game, he will be there Round 1.

Playing him is the only way to get him match fit.

When looking at the opposition for Round 1, I don't see where Bizzell may fit in. If Kosi and Reiwoldt both play (unlikely), we'll need Holland. If one of those don't play, we may decide to go with 2 talls, and 4 medium running type players, which is where Bizzell may come in. He could be a temporary solution while Frawley is learning at Sandy.

Then it is one of Ward or Brown, as Godfrey really won't be needed with the return of Moloney (hopefully).

Miller is another certainty. He'll line up at CHF, but if the Saints stock up their forward line with talls, he may be moved to defence.

on what basis does most include Yze?

On the basis that he'll finally wake up from his slumber, turn on the magic and play a blinder in round 1. We know his capable of brilliance, we just don't know when he'll turn it on. We only have to go back to round 17 last year when he kicked 5 goals against the Doggies. That was July 2006. Why can't he do that again in March 2007?

He had the worst game of his career last weekend against Richmond (highlighted by pulling out of a marking contest), and if he fails again tomorrow down at [censored] Cat Park, then some serious questions must be asked....maybe even retirement if he's lost the motivation.

However, I have him in my round 1 team, as he has the runs on the board and can step up in big games. If there is no improvement, then he must be dropped in round 2 as he's proving a liability.

It's good to believe in your players, but what I want to know is at whos expense is Yze getting a game?

There are a handful of kids who have had a very good pre-season and worked very hard, and deserve to get a game. Yze doesn't play a vital role in the side anymore, and IMO could easily be replaced by a number of promising candidates.

What really annoys me is that a lot of supporters are very unhappy about Miller possibly getting a game ahead of Dunn, and yet they are happy to include Yze in our side ahead of CJ or Buckley etc...

Thanks, but it's what 'she' said.

Sorry, but it bugs me when people refer to me as a guy

I know youre a gal, but for some reason I always have it in my head that you are a bloke

I know, it makes no sense. It must be because you know your footy, unlike most women

Yes Sir! :P

Well it's not as if there are a lot of us around this place, so do keep up! ;)

Y_M, I'm doing whatever I can to stop the misconception that women know nothing about footy, and that their only interest in the sport lies with perving on players.

It would be like me saying that all men know nothing about fashion :P

Have to agree with freak here, I cant see any reason to start our best players on the bench... it just gives up any chance they have of setting the standard of the quarter or game. We need to have our best team on at the first bounce, that time is so vital! Best players will be able to set up goals at any stage, thats why they are our best players... the 'second' tier HB's and midfielders will benefit more coming on 10-15 mins in.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
