The commentators mentioned that Jimmy had changed out of his no. 11.  Not sure why, maybe it got ripped or something.

Can't understand why the Eagles weren't in white shorts that day.

It's also glaring how the 'deliberate out of bounds' rule wasn't enforced very often in those days.

We finished 5th and should have worn the white shorts.  That was in the days when all finals had to be played in Victoria.

Strawbs was a pretty gangly unit.  Not made for these conditions!

Love Grinter’s hit on Lewis.

Fiunny watching it through 2020 eyes.  All the out of bounds, protected areas, dropping the pill and high tackles that are let go.  Keeps waiting for the whistle!

Wet conditions, skills are [censored], just pick up and kick or just kick out of bounds. The rules have changed so much. I was there but didn’t remember it being so wet but back then that was the norm more so than these days.

Johnson clearly our best player by far.

Gotta chuckle at Sandy Roberts' use of the term "effective scoring shots".  I wonder what would constitute an ineffective one.

I hope all ye young fellas out there who never got to see much success are takin' notice of the grit, guts & determination needed to win the big ones.

There's gold up in them there hills i tell ye!

Saw one of the old gang ...Vince from Sassafras goin off with that last Jackson goal.  Haven't seen him in a few decades

Tuned in at a good time. It seems players did everything better back then. Picking the ball up cleanly in greasy conditions, none of this fumble fest we see these days. Players using both feet really well. A much better spectacle than today.

Johnno had a very good 2nd half.  One of only two players to join the no-merger movement in 96 and easily lands in my all time fav Demons.  All class.

Sean White turned it around in the third up forward, helped by Johnson big time.

The whole game is a mile above what we have to put up with now. It's almost a different sport. So much more enjoyable to watch the old stuff and you get to see the skills and individual brilliance that made me fall in love with the game as a kid. You still get to see some of it these days but it's few and far between compared to what we used to get back then.

And showed that even from a long bomb from Williams outside 50....if you play in front and have half decent attack and skills as a forward, you can make something from not much.

Balls Grinter also had a few WC forwards hearing footsteps on occasions.  Always knew how to set the cat amongst the pidgeons.

I had forgotten how the umpires were always escorted off the ground at full time by cops on horses.

"That wasn't there....just a really good solid contest ..." says Bill as McKenna is free kicked having almost been put in a wheel chair by the Duke! ?

Well with the VFL Park scoreboard egging people on they had to! Remember at the start of the game the scoreboard would introduce who the umpires were with a cartoon of an umpire having rotten produce thrown at him, would never get away with that these days with everyone having to "respect" the umpires

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
