  • Demonland changed the title to Coronavirus Mini Draft

Can't see it working.  Surely once a player is confirmed with the virus, at the very least some of his teammates/coaches will have to self-isolate.  Unless that number is very low a good proportion of the team will be off for 2 weeks. And maybe opponents from a recent match, or your team's players who encountered an infected opponent previously).   I expect such a mini-draft would quickly end up a maxi draft to provide enough players.

A 'coronavirus mini-draft'? The AFL is reportedly considering the option, as it could help clubs cover any players that contract the virus. FULL STORY >> AFL ponders radical mini-draft to help clubs cover any players that contract coronavirus

Don't tell me we are moving back towards a Reserves competition, in a way.?

I’d take Black Plague with pick 3. If Spanish flu lasts until pick 21 you’ll be getting that for sure.

Agreed.  It would likely compromise the integrity of the competition too much IMHO.  Better to postpone games/rounds and consolidate the season into a 17 game every team plays off once type of scenario, which in a way would be kind of [censored] for us, since we supposedly have an easier draw due to our low finish last season.  Damn MFC luck.

What did they do during the Second World War?

Some Clubs missed out due to ground unavailability and personnel.

Has any one ever questioned the 1941-45 flags as not authentic?

Quite frankly the 2006  ( and possibly the 92 and 94 flags ) of the Eagles might be challenged due to drug issues and even the Cats 07 and 09 with Dank around.

This is a real life experience and to try and equalise etc. is being  too precious.Treat the Covid-19 as an injury and Clubs accept the consequences. Points would be awarded for lack of a team Numbers availability.

Play on and the Bombers survived in 2016 and with AFL financial help The 18 teams can be resumed in 2021 when the Pandemic has disappeared.

in the meantime if we win the flag I would not care one iota if no Pies Eagles Tigers Dons or Hawks we're not involved or compromised due to the circumstances.

How do you schedule this to suit hurt teams.?

Well done to the AFL for being proactive and getting a little creative.

The AFL are professional creatives.....have been for years.
It’s why the game we have now is nothing alike to what we grew up with.

Does Corona draft taste like Carlton draft?  I usually prefer a bottle.

and is that draft or draught?

It makes more sense to me that the draft would be more about providing a large enough list to deal with playing a game every 4 days from rounds 2-6, than covering for those with the virus itself.

Well, the one area we really need cover in is the ruck.  If Gawn gets sick we're stuffed, so I'd be looking at bringing in a backup just in case.  I'm sure there are a couple of ex-AFL rucks floating around who could nullify the contest and give our mids an even chance.

Another kick in the nuts to every struggling local team out there by an organisation that cares for nothing but itself.

Take the best players out of these teams mid season and leave to them to fend for themselves.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
