Coronavirus: AFL & MFC

this is the bad news message before they announce that the afl will be going 'full bernie' and taking all revenue in the game, distributing it evenly between 18 clubs in order for them to survive

about time the afl went full socialist rather than the half-measures of salary cap, soft cap, and other some restrictive measures

Many would argue they were full socialist already

And thank Christ for that Moon.

Even embraced by ScoMo and his mates. Even The Donald.

Not a peep from the usual media bottom lickers.

Funny how we have half the population who now think that welfare is well.....fair, now they are in the queue or may be.

Suddenly free trade can be seen for what it is and protectionism does not look so bad.

Economic growth is one thing but humanity is another. If we do not have a society that cares for one another, we do not have a society.

Great to hear the AFL and clubs talking as one and supporting the unchanged state of the Clubs.

i didn't realise that socialists make every decision based on maximising profits ?

The old die (redistributing wealth), universal basic wage of $1500 fortnightly, nationalisation of the private hospitals and now free child care!

As I've said before: coronavirus has managed to do what Bernie Sanders could not!!! (albeit in Australia)

I wonder what his view would be if Collingwood were not one of the favourites?

Just say for example they were in Carlton's position...

Would a navy blue flag have an "asterisk" Ed?

We can only dream of having a comp as strong as the EPL .Not only are most continuing to pay all staff full wages the stronger clubs are paying match day staff (ticket collectors etc) for missed matches.

Of coarse that it helps that the government is paying 80% of everyone's wages for 6 months!  Then they have private owners with deep pockets.  But what I have read in the past that many of the clubs are massively in debt in the 10's of millions, so maybe not the best model.

Yes, but the 50% pay cut so far is only for a few months, so his $1mill becomes about $850k.

Poor guy... thoughts and prayers

Forget about season 2020, at this stage there will be no season 2021, 18 team AFL is finished, the AFl will keep all interstate sides and maybe 5 Victorian sides and 1 in Tasmania, a vaccine is 12 months away, and another 12 months before enough are made   to vaccinate the population.

And lose about 50% of supporters.

Your'e making me angry posting garbage like this.

Some people are handling this isolation better than others.

My missus is becoming hysterical, running around the house and banging on windows and doors.

Tomorrow, I might let her in.

Give it another few weeks and people will not tolerate the destruction of everything to 'save lives'.

If this goes on for even 3 months then there will mass civil disobedience.

First to mass will be football fans united to demand the government call off the collective social suicide for our own good plan which is working a treat.

I'm elderly...over 60 ....I would rather die than see my club go under.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
