Sit down, Dave. It took you two weeks to stand up.

You’ve clearly got time on your hands, so go back and read all my comments and its context. It was on the same day where there was debate about another player (from North I think) who was falsely named in the media.

I was strong on NOT naming the name I heard for that very reason. That’s kinda responsible, right? The source of this particular murmur was very close to the player apparently involved and I felt it relevant to the topic at the time and worth sharing on this site.

So it seems the player had another ailment and was isolated as a precaution. Probably a good move, given the [censored] was just starting to hit the fan with the biggest global health crisis in a century, its crippling effects to be felt in every area of every individuals lives for months, years, even generations.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn’t it Dave?

Personally I have grown quite attached to my life and my house and so I wish him every success in tackling anything that threatens either."

See below for facts on normal Flu year

would love to see  this incorporated in to the conversation. So every year 1500 to 3000 patients die,

it doesnt make the head lines nor is their any real discussions as it is a part of the cycle of life and death.

We have a small number of Corona deaths and the world as we know is shut down

Influenza Fast Facts

  • Influenza (commonly known as "the flu") is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that can be spread through coughing and sneezing.
  • In Australia, influenza on average causes 1,500 to 3,000 deaths,3 about 18,000 hospitalisations and 300,000 GP consultations1 each year.
  • Influenza is caused by a virus and causes more severe illness than the common cold. It can cause serious and debilitating complications, including pneumonia, especially in people that are vulnerable such as the elderly and other in the "at risk" group.
  • People with a chronic disease have a 40 times increased risk of death from influenza.
  • Annual vaccination is the single most effective measure to prevent influenza.
  • Only 42 per cent of the "at risk" group under 65 years of age are being vaccinated annually.2
  • Less than 50 per cent of healthcare workers, who are at a greater risk of contracting and spreading influenza, are being vaccinated against influenza annually.
  • 10 per cent of all workplace absenteeism associated with illness is due to influenza.

This is what is really annoying me about the way people insist on comparing this event to the flu. Apart from the fact that there is no cure and no vaccine, coupled with the fact that this is far more contagious, people insist on misrepresenting the deaths statistic!!

In Australia, we have a total of 261 cases that have an outcome, 17 of which are deaths (maybe 6 to 7%?). No one should be stating deaths as a percentage of the total number of cases as the bulk do not yet have an outcome. Of course over time the percentage of deaths will drop, but while there are cases yet to have an outcome, no one can be sure what the number of deaths will actually be.

This is nothing like the flu and it is folly to think that it is.

Ok Dave, let me try and understand your rationale here. So, if initially I was to provide the name of the player, even at a time when the information was unconfirmed, you wouldn’t be having a goddamn aneurysm right now?

If you get the chance to listen to the Premier of WA's press statement it's worth a listen.

I never realised that they weren't part of the greater Australia.

Piece of trivia.........WA were the last to agree to join the federation. In fact if the previous move to federation had got off the ground it would have had NZ in and WA out.

They could do a Scotland in years to come.

Basically he’s saying to the rest of Australia [censored] off, we don’t know you and don’t want you.  He’s an idiot. He could have said it a 100 different ways that sounds more compassionate.

Might fire up the secessionist movement again. Usually raises its head when the economy is booming and they want to keep all the money for themselves then go quiet during a bust. When things go really bad they like to blame the rest of the country and feel they can do better on their own.

It's left out of the conversation because it's peak stupidity.

Yes people die from the flu every year. Yes it's sad, but largely unavoidable.

If the current virus is allowed to spread unchecked throughout the country, best estimates are that there will be over 100,000 preventable deaths in Australia alone. Governments don't take the decision to shut down countries lightly.

If you still can't get your head around that at this point, you must be actively avoiding listening to anyone who knows what they are talking about.

100,000 is just the CV-19 deaths, with hospitals overrun for a period of time other preventable deaths would rise as well.

Yes, not a good time to have a heart attack or stroke, or to fall off a ladder.

Also a good time to pass on a phone number to elderly neighbours via a note in their letterbox. No man is an island, as they say.

I really hope they don't do this.  We need Western Australia.  It's somewhere to keep the West Australians.

Not to mention longer-term side-effects either from the disease or the treatments. Even intubation carries some serious risks.

Interesting as the Constitution guarantees free trade between the states. While the Constitutional power is not a guarantee of free movement complete lockdown of  a State could be hard to enforce.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
