Yep. Me too.

Oliver will be our only player I’m tipping

Possibly Petracca? But yeah Oliver would be the only one I can think of that would be right up there.

Hardwick and Longmire decided to change the selection rules that limited 3 players from each team to be selected.  Hardwick reasoned that fans want to see the ‘best players’... I’m not sure that’s true.  I think most fans, especially the younger ones, want to see their favourite players playing alongside the best.

Going to watch Richmond, Collingwood and Geelong play against Brisbane, GWS and WCE isn’t going to have the same appeal.

Depends on how this game is being viewed, if it's only an exhibition game that is a bit of fun then sure put in a more even spread of players from teams, but if it's meant to be a showcase of the skill and talent from the best players (which is what SOO is all about aside from rivalry) then yeah it's what they are doing by getting more of the best in there.

Not gonna lie, if a few GWS and WC players pick up some cheeky little injuries going into the main season from this I might just have a little rye grin.

Lord Nev!?

No Demons for Vic, only Nev in all stars squad and will most likely be cut.

I was going to go to this but just cancelled my tix purchase.

No interest anymore.

Agreed. And while we’re at it, I’d be up for scrapping any games that aren’t AFL, full stop.

This Marsh stuff? An opportunity for players to get injured in return for what? A trophy that nobody cares about.

If the point of a pre-season comp is for players to warm up a bit before the real thing, let them all warm up in the first few rounds together. The game is too intense and too injury-prone now. Any sacrifices made on the ground should be for the real thing.

Oliver didn't even get selected for the VIC's??

Or am I overrating Oliver?

Stiff he didn't get on the bench

They're simply practice matches with a naming right and are televised on Foxtel. Certainly no trophy involved.

Hallelujah and no you're not.

Even more reason not to bother.

Yeah well wouldn't we love Clarry Choo Choo to get 3 votes against the Tiges this year. Shove it right up Hardwicks thrice broken nose!!

I'm glad no more Dees than Nev were included.....& really, no one apart from Max  & Clarry would have even been considered.

Keep them fit for round 1 I say......game v WCE will dictate our year.

you don't want us to play practice matches before round 1??

they are important to get some match fitness and getting rid of some rust

Another well timed slap in the face of our playing group.
No respect given.

(and understandably so)

Hoping our 2020 season runs like a redemptive Tarantino movie, violent,  entertaining, and ultimately cathartic.

Go Demons.

Yep.

It’s a hit and giggle fundraiser, but they’re competitors.  It couldn’t feel good that two of the most successful coaches of the last decade changed the rules so they wouldn’t be forced to pick you.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
