This is just for the oval at this stage, wait and see what happens when we get to the actual home base stage.

Sounds good, when will we know more?

Have you ever been to a Soccer game at Docklands?  The paying patrons sit so far away from the action, it kills the atmosphere (Not that the ground has the greatest atmosphere anyhow). Oval grounds aren't great for Soccer matches (in my opinion). However watching Soccer at the Bubble is fantastic, you sit right on top of the action

agree.... add to that soccer grounds with running tracks around them which are common overseas

AAMI Park is a fantastic viewing venue

The thing that gets me when they play at places like the MCG is that they also insist upon having the subs, coaches, seats etc on the pitch sidelines which makes it even worse for ground level viewing venues such as the MCG

Horrendously underwhelming announcement. I hope the majority aren’t fooled into thinking this is something worth celebrating.

Pert’s head should be on the chopping block for how pitiful this is.

That's a failure of the AFL/State Governments/FIFA/Football Aus to negotiate better outcomes, particularly with nonsense around stadium shutdowns/signage etc.

Those kind of decisions should be re-evaluated now it's Covid times and everyone has had to cooperate better.

I guess it could be handy for the occasional big final or concert but it's also going to hurt the atmosphere at home and away storm/victory/other games played there too. The stadium is a success because it's so appropriate for the teams.

Anyway, hopefully it works for us and I guess it won't be the dodgiest economic stimulus going around.

To be fair FIFA demands that following the stadiums are not used for a period of time prior to the the tournament and during the tournament, there is also some rules about stadium capacity for the semi final/final being in a 50,000 seat venue.

So essentially if the MCG or Marvel were to host a semi final or the final they'd be out of use for a month or so. Which is quite significant for just one game so i can understand the reluctance to negotiate from the AFL even if it annoys me as a fan of women's football.

So presumably we're kicking in somewhere between $250k-400k. That's a good result for a redevelopment and leaves us cash rich to backstop the 2020-2021 financial hits to revenue.

No it's $500,000 each from us and the AFL.

Goschs work starts August and ready by beginning of season next season.

The elephant in the room is if there will be a toilet built next to the oval ?

one of those amazing automatic ones where the door opens if you are in there for longer than ten minutes perhaps.

Give me a Paris pissoir any day.

That should gives us a good training base. The rest is low priority for me.

Oh, sure. Then one day, on a Friday, in football season, about 11AM, you'll be in Richmond, near Punt Road, having been shovelling dirt or working a jackhammer (or driving a tractor or welding pipes), and you'll be dying for a beer, and somehow all the nearby pubs have run out or are closed for the day, and then you'll remember the AAMI/Gosch's social club, and you'll change your tune pretty bloody quick smart.

Well past the shovelling dirt stage  MZ. I am happy if you want more but has zero affect on me. All I want is the best facilities for the players / FD.

I must say DJ I loved Paris, I would go back tomorrow. Of course I doubt that will now ever be possible. But at least I have been there which may now be out of reach for the young for some time.

well in the old days (the sixties) they emptied into the gutters of Paris and each day the gutters were flushed with water from the Seine which they still do today sans pee.

The French are so cool sometimes.

On the sixties I remember going to windy Hill when it was fairly similar DJ. Fortunately that has improved.

In one way I hope you are right on the other not so much. Unlike a lot of people I have done a fair amount of travel through work and leisure, if at my  age and currently problems  prevents me from further travel then I won't be disappointed too much. It is the young that I care about. They may never know the freedom I had over the last 50 years.

PS never been to Spain.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
