The Glen Eira Tunnel which provides access for cars on race day is a short walk to the left from the headquarters. If a car can drive there then so can the club van with equipment, and players can certainly walk the distance.

What is the problem?

Under the latest plan George, our headquarters is expected to be to the right of Glenhuntly Park shown on your map. Mount Scopus will be near Gate B.

They are the racing body. They are the reason the place exists. They are the second most powerful club in an industry that contributes many millions to the Government coffers. Their members rank among the most powerful people in the State.

If it makes sense and benefits the MRC we'll get our ground but we'll always be the lesser tenant. For instance I'll wager we don't have much by way of overhead lights for the ovals. Pitch side facilities will need to be submerged below the sight line plus a million other concessions.

BTW: Where does the high roofed indoor training centre go?

It’ll happen if Munz gets behind it, otherwise I’d suggest it’s dead. I could be wrong but it sounds like our Board and club think they hold some kind of bargaining power….sounds like egos at midnight to me. I stand by my comments that if this falls over it has to take the bulk, if not all, of the Board and possibly Guerra with it. You don’t get to this point to have it fall over unless you’re a bit of a fool.

There is a long line of people at the MFC who were on this project who have since been shown the door, a President and CEO have already been unable to get this up and are now gone.

The way some carry on about this 'complex' , about all the things involved, some near seemingly insurmountable... sorry I have to laugh.

In the world of civil engineering, the Metro Tunnel is a complex project, a 100 storey building , not as complex ( these days ) as some would suppose... a new Training establishment for the Dees, OUGHT to be a walk in the park ( or a lap of the course or two ) by comparison. There is NOTHING hard or confronting about this at least not as being presented to date.

The ONLY thing hard....is finding a spot and someone telling us to start. I seriously dont think the coin is the issue some think.

No, the only issue is as of this writing we have nowhere to build. Prospects not looking too flash either.

The redevelopment of Moonee Valley Racecourse must be playing a role here. No racing there for 12 months at least. If that wasn't happening right now I imagine MRC wouldn't have as much hesitancy towards the tunnel and impact to racing.

Being broke never stopped them spending money before. That said a project in an affluent area like Caulfield wouldn’t be a priority

How much earth would the horses require over the top of the tunnel, at least a metre I would think.

I fail to see the ablutions block in the sketches also.

Would be interesting to know if they still hated it if they weren't split between AAMI and Casey. If everything was in one place, and there was a lifestyle sell to be made (living on the Mornington Peninsula as opposed to in the city), would that mitigate the issues? Possibly not. But it might for some.

I think the biggest issue from a facilities perspective is finding a way to kill the wind that plagues the footy oval
