So, Just got my 'online only' membership.  the club have sure made a mountain out of a molehill.   Instead of a digital card I would store on my phone, I have to access 'tickets' to each individual game.  Talk about making things harder than they needed to be.  I just want the barcode in an easy to use place so I can get into the game, into my premium seating area, and to the bar!  I dont want to have to take 6 steps on my phone to do it when it should be there in one.

So, now I get it. As a "digital" member I receive nothing in the mail. not even any stickers for the car

As you've selected to Go Digital in 2020, your membership card and two bonus general admission tickets are now accessible via the Melbourne Football Club app.

As a digital member, you won’t be receiving a membership pack and card in the mail.

If you have selected a scarf as your member choice item, this can be collected from the Melbourne Club Hub at any MCG home game*. *. If you have selected a $25 Demon Shop voucher, it will be sent to you via email.

think i made a mistake going digital

downloads every game. rooted if phone goes flat. have to pull out phone, find app every time i goto or leave seat

don't know why i need separate ticket for each game, why not just one barcode as now with plastic card

hopefully i've got this all wrong and it won't be too bad

i hope there is an option to print a membership card (as an alternative and backup)

they also switched me to auto debit for the third year in a row after telling them each year that i want to be manual .........i try to have zero or close to automatic debits

Agreed. This digital business is way too technical for me.

I rejected the digital avenue. The lanyard with the card is the footy season security blanket. It worked, too. As I go out of the ground a fair bit during the breaks to breathe that enchanting Benson & Hedges aroma, the card is quick, no queues, and is identifiable for the seat attendants in the Members' areas. Flash and sit, I call it.

is there any way to print a card yourself as a backup

i'm starting to regret going digital....should have been digital + card

In a printer?......It is only a bar code, either on your phone or a piece of plastic or paper.

yeah i thought of that, but just a barcode won't help with seat attendant

Not a smoker but I went the same way. Old school. The cards (for me and the spouse) arrived this week, two months after payment, but then the club did say they'd be arriving after Christmas.

I am OK with the package: cards and three stickers. The magnetic fixture could be handy but probably won't be used, just like every other year. Otherwise there's no wastage.

Interestingly both our memberships turned up in one envelope addressed to just one of us: now that's efficient cost cutting.

Membership numbers as of today 7 February....31,519

This is 2808 down on the same day last year.

The saints have 36,877 at the moment, while North have 31,910

Below North is a worry, but I think we have more capacity for growth. The Saints have had good press and are seriously upbeat so that's to be expected.

It is annoying how fickle some of our crew are.

The card only pathway worked for me - an interstate/armchair member - as it has those two extra games (that are available with the digital on-phone pathway. So, interstate/card still gets 5 game entries, and 'she who must be obeyed', the 'hand-brake', gets the same membership deal. It costs a fraction more than the digital, even fo interstate members, but it is worth it for the types of trips that I make to mighty Melbourne to touch base with my heritage.

Opted out of the parcel deal, as well, as over the years, the merchandise mounts - and last year I won the door prize at the interstate luncheon in the Sporting Globe pub, which was a $400 gift voucher at the Demons shop at the MCG - so I am well equipped with other Club paraphernalia. The old 'flash and sit' card is the way to go and cannot be superceded adequately - provided that little Club window in the Southern Stand stays in operation to collect tickets for guests. 'Carna Dees!

I got the card in the mail, but have taken a photo of the bar code with my phone. Will see if that scans in R1. Could make keeping tabs of the card's whereabouts a lot easier

Was there a breakdown on the types of memberships?

North Melbourne have a special running today. Buy a 5 game membership and get upgraded  automatically to an 11 game. With the exception of the Suns and GWS surely this is a first? I’m guessing it’s aimed at new members or disgruntled old ones.

The Saints ran a $1 membership 2 years ago.  They got about 4K "members" who miraculously appeared in their membership total in June of that year. Trouble was their income membership for that year actually dropped. ....but hey good story to tell the sponsors!

I have a feeling if we get off to a good start our membership no's will rise above North and nearer Or past Saints by season tally.
That is some new and returning others from last season.
watch this space !!!

There was an article in the herald sun a little while ago comparing basic 11 game membership prices and contents:

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/heres-how-to-find-the-best-afl-membership-deal/news-story/d7220bad569c78023e7a3cb758ab3b4a

Our prices are generally around $20 more expensive than Richmond's at all age levels, despite us winning just 2 of 11 home games last season. It is no wonder that our numbers are down.

No doubt but they are just as quick to go if success in not sustained.

If we also had 88,000 plus members I guess we could afford to lower the price as well. It’s like Made in China but with quality over there. Our low numbers have absolutely nothing to do with price.

Would have nothing to do with it

It's more relevant what OUR prices were last year if you wish to make Price comparison but this is nothing really.

Numbers are best except for last season and if we start well I believe will spike quite well during early rounds.

not sure how much it will hurt but Last year at our local Footy club ( which Im told is the biggest Junior Club) , We had the option of either a Melbourne JNR membership when we paid our fees or St Kilda , this year we have only Saints

Im told we had near 900 Juniors last year.

I didnt tick the St Kilda option for all 3 of my kids that play and then received a email from them saying would i like the free membership, Not sure they will read my reply , but i stated in no uncertain terms NO.

Mine too forever as usual. Now they want me to go digital. I’m not one for using my phone for everything, so I refused. Hope they don’t make it compulsory next year

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
