Just goes to show how much utter smack gets thrown around in the media in the lead up to the draft. '2 clear standouts - then a group of 10-12 very evenly rated, then it drops off a cliff from there' was the consensus. Kemp sliding to 17 and Robertson slipping outside round 1 suggests recruiters thought differently.

Some unlikely names still on the board. Apart from Robertson, there's Worrell, Harrison Jones, Trent Rivers, Will Gould, Elijah Taylor, Jeremy Sharp & Dylan Williams still there. Wow.

Forgot about Trent Bianco as well.

Reckon he'll be in the next 10 picked, wouldn't mind bringing him in but think he'll be off the board by our next pick.

Carlton are big winners.

Weren’t forced to trade pick 9 for Jack Martin and now get him for nothing.

Trade pick 9 and get 2 players in the top 20.

Also bid for both Green and Henry when others looked away.

Mind you, Green was looked upon as the next Patrick Cripps and they also have the real one!

As much as I don’t like saying this, Carlton now has a team chock full of young talent and will rise quickly.

Or, as per my Carlton mate who is as pessimistic as most on here, they picked up another player with a bung knee and someone the commentators had no idea who he was

How so? Have i missed something with Jack Martin to suggest that all of a sudden he is going to Carlton to become a high quality recruit? Same bloke that was dropped to the reserves towards the back end of the year by one of the worst teams this decade has seen.

Kemp Is still a big risk imo. What does that say on Hawthorn and Geelong who also passed him up? Two clubs who are known to have state of the art medical teams. They would have factored that in.

Not only that but Carlton then traded up to pick 20 to pick up a kid who was predicted to go in the 3rd round. That's a big enough risk right there considering the talent that was still available around that pick. Carlton fans weren't exactly impressed with that selection either.

It's just laughable to suggest Carlton are already the big winner is this draft when Fremantle just snagged 3 quality talents in the top 10.

Brisbane have swapped their pick 23 with Port’s pick 22 so now have the first pick of the night.

Robertson one would assume?

Live pick trading has certainly added a bit of a buzz to draft night.  Usually it is fairly boring after round 1.  Watching the Lions try to make a pick swap to get the points to match the bid on Coleman is very entertaining!

Why did they get more then 5 minutes? New rules on the fly?

Fox said the AFL needs to tick off the pick swaps and because it was complicated (apparently) it took some time.

But it doesn't look complicated so it could be 'rules on the fly'!!

They paused the clock when they were negotiating with West Coast. That fell through and then they got to negotiate with Sydney.  Find it hard to believe they managed to negotiate that with Sydney in the 1 second they had left

Are Robertson and Bianco still there??

Robertson first picked to Brisbane.

Bianco to Collingwood at 45.

Wtf were Gold Coast thinking? Traded pick 57 and next year’s pick 11 (which was part of their assistance package so I’m surprised they were allowed to trade it) for Geelong’s pick 27. Crazy.

Port, Freo, WB, GC in the last two years.... incredible, that’s how you build a future. Still unsure on our left field picks, time will tell.

Another gift for the Cats.

The AFL just gets worse by the day.  How could they allow the Suns to throw away a PP like that.

I can’t believe they signed off on that, especially since it was assistance. Shonky organisation anyway

Pathetic.

Wouldn’t give us draft assistance when we were playing worse than University, throw all the picks their way, then allow them to gift it to a club that doesn’t even need it?!!

What a goddamn joke!

Where would have Kyle Dunkley gone in this draft?

Third-fourth round. He’s a speculative prospect.

Agreed. I was going to say mid-late third round.

I mean sure give them an assistence package but if the same people are in charge of gold coast who did the awful deal with Brisbane and crap deal with Freo what can we expect except a stupid deal with geelong being the icing on the cake (Gold Coast is taking the theme 'Bottom Feeder' to a new level.. not just loosing good players a few years after drafting, loosing them before they have even drafted them for crap all return hahaha).

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
