Early days. But as with most preseasons there's usually someone who goes way under the Demonland discussion radar.

Curious why it's this bloke? Dunkley, Bedford, Lockhart, Sparrow etc. getting mentions.

Third season in - got some exposure last year. Showed some promising glimpses. 21 years old.

Some interest around Murray and then Ash in the draft. Baker has some similar highlights off half-back.

What is it? Do we think he won't step it up? Unfashionable recruitment path? Written off already?

Needs to be more damaging in my opinion. Showed some glimpses and has some pace. Maybe with a more functional forward line and more options he can become a bit more adventurous.

He really impressed me in the small sample size this year. He will need to add some diversity to his role if he wants to crack into the team.

Thisis the beauty of further increasing our depth.

The young guy have to work even harder.

I feel like our overall depth in 2018 was better than last season (except for the ruck position).

We had guys like Pedersen, Tyson & Vince who weren't there this year.

I think our depth will be very good next year with a lot of second year players in Sparrow, Nietschke & Jordon.

Plus another pre-season into guys like Baker & Spargo.

We then add Langdon & Tomlinson plus potentially a DFA like Mitch Brown and our depth is much better.

I haven't seen him out there in any of the pics or mentioned in any of the reports. Has he gone under the radar as mystery injury/absence?

Absolutely.

To be honest I was a bit disappointed with his form last year. One of tbe few to hsve an uninterrupted preseason, his best position was vacant and had a chance to cement his spot.

Showed some glimpses but for mine simply did not impact enough, dissipated in games and disposal iffy.

If not wing where does he play?

Did not have an uninterrupted preseason. Was in rehab with Melksham for long parts of the summer after his 2 hamstring injuries in late 2018. Started the season very slowly once the vfl started.

I thought his kicking was far better than expected. The penetration was there and decision making was solid. Just drifted out of games and they didn’t trust him defensively so moved him forward a lot.

If he can run at afl level he’ll be a player. Unfortunately he’s currently MIA for preseason.

Wheres he at @Satyriconhome

Needs to get significantly fitter and stronger so that he can impact games for longer. Currently seems to go hard for a couple of contests and then disappear for long periods whilst he recovers. Good news is that he has two years to work on this.

Agree 100% binman, I have seen him a bit at Casey and he plays in a similar way there. Has a good quarter then seems to go missing.

Now I saw him 5-6 times last year at Casey I doubt he would have made the seniors if not for our long injury list in 2019.

I am doubtful he will make it.

Was one of the few highlights from last year.

Was very impressed with his poise.

That probably says more about our highlights reel last year than his ability CB

I wouldn't write Baker off just yet. He has ability and may become one of our better players. Time will tell.

I assume you are missing a question mark.

For some reason i thought he had a full presason. Gives me some more confidence that he didn't in so far as if he can have one he might go to a better level. Is he currently injured?

Bit of an issue, but will leave until it is official

Clue please.  Injury related or attitude/off-field related?

This is what I'm curious about. He made his debut last year after an interrupted 2018. He seems to be judged by some other measure than a few of his peers.

Fair comment.

Perhaps I'm judging him a bit harshly. My assessment is influenced by the fact I thought he might be the sort of player who thrives at a higher level. Someone wirh a real x factor. I half expected him to slot straight in and light it up. Like a Sydney stack or higgins. Which he didn't.

I'm not writing him off and he could well make it. But he might have to recent himself. Maybe as a dashing hb.

didn't show that at all tonight. Sat on his hands and knees after he lost a contest whilst Walters lead into a paddock of space which he could've filled. He is one of the first on the delist list, which is a shame because he really has the outside run we need; but his footy IQ and skills are not AFL standard

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
