Lets hope the added pressure of mumbling through serious post-game interviews does not make his game go backwards or that he inherits Viney's injury issues and misses much of the season. I think this is an appointment for fans and will not help with any on field problems. How important is a captain anyway?

Oh dear....

So a lot of posters are going to off half cocked on most likely a garbage post. Gullible is such a good word.

I like to think “gulpable” might be a better word... the OP being culpable with regards to the veracity of his post and the posters accepting the post at face value being gullible.

The club have done really well in preventing leaks recently and I don't see why the announcement of our 2020 captain should be any different.

People keep saying the club is great at preventing leaks. That was true when Jackson was CEO, but since he left we’ve been leaking again. I was able to get draft and trade info weeks in advance with minimal effort (and posted in draft thread as proof). We are nowhere near as tight as we were 2-3 years ago. The leaks have returned, let’s just hope our good form returns too!

Gawny has won the last two Ron Barassi Jnr Trophies for leadership.  Now that a vacancy has arisen with Jones stepping down he will be Captain (or co-Captain).  It's a no brainer and doesn't require a vote, a leak or anything else to determine. He's been Captain in all but title since 2016. When it is officially announced, it will be nothing more than a statement of the obvious.

Yes I recall you said you'd be "disgusted" if we took Jackson and Pickett with our first 2 picks.

What’s happening with Viney? If you’re in the know re Max, you’d have to know if Viney will be kept on as a captain. Cheers.

Doesn’t necessarily mean Viney is not co-captain, I don’t know that.

Also correctly posted 13 of the top 15 based on what a source at the club advised we and other clubs were doing. The leaks are an unfortunate fact now. A shame, but it doesn’t impact our onfield performance, and onfield is what matters.

Regarding Jackson and Kossie, I still think both were the wrong choice at their respective picks, but they’re in red and blue now so they have my support.

Yeah, who would possibly have thought we were in need of a tall who can play forward or in the ruck, or that we need a small forward with X factor?

What’s your point?

One if us is providing facts and their opinion on a subject.

The other is personally attacking an opinion.

Bringing the thread back on topic... Max seems the best choice for captain in 2020. He’s clearly the leader of the boy’s out there and also has star potential to lead and drag others with him.

I know this’ll come across as straw-clutching but I remember seeing your post which did paint a different story:

I'm interested in whether you posted that you were "digusted" with our drafting before or after it was leaked to you.

Also keen to hear your explanation for posting inside info from a club official on a public website if you're so concerned with leaking?

Good pick-up - just as Lord had been patting himself vigorously on the back.

Not only did we not select Young, Sydney did not bid on Green. ?

I think Max could end up being one of our Clubs all time great captains. He is a natural leader who the team will follow

During my time supporting the club, Neita has been the one that has stood out for me. I started supporting in 1998 and never saw the likes of Garry Lyon lead this club. From what I have heard though, a fierce leader who was highly respected within the club and  AFL community was Lyon.

Not to interrupt a classic Demonland lynch mob, but I believe Lord Travis was referring to this post of his which was astonishingly accurate. Always interesting seeing some who contribute so little being so quick to criticize others who try to.

So in a clear exercise of self promotion, a poster claims to have an anonymous MFC club link and after a number of attempts, names 12 of the first 15 picks correctly (not 13) and that's proof that our club has gone from tight lips to leak city? Righto.

Despite the belief that sources should not be revealed, I'd want to know the name of the club source at a minimum before giving credence to a contrarian poster.

Nowhere did I say anything about leaks or sources or such.

People are potting the guy for making a statement a month before the draft that didn't pan out. He might have made it up, might have been told wrong or things might have changed in that time. The fact remains however that he made a post about the draft order that was majorly spot on.

Personally, I much prefer to read that kind of post than the ones where anonymous internet posters whose only contribution is opinion gang up on someone who has actually contributed something productive.

Which, as you say, was preceded by a prediction that was 100% wrong.

Again, throw enough scenarios out and at least one is bound to be correct.

In the end, Lord Travis' case for us being leaky is based upon his contrarian draft prediction post, tenuous at best. We are nearly all anonymous on here, but only a few claim club inside intel and then get shirty when questioned.

You can prefer whatever you like, as will I.

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
