I think it's Sparrow...

Good to see Harmes, Viney and Hunt back early.

Good moral support for the younger players.

Wouldn't be surprised to see most of the team back next week, before their expected date, which iirc is in about 10-14 days.

Will be interesting to see who does come back early, I know they don’t need to but it does make a bit of a statement if they do

Fairly confident it is Monday week LH ( 18th).

Yep, after last year's off-season a statement needs to be made by the players.  No better way to do so than show intent by coming back early, fit and ready to go.

The only statement I need to see LH is a win in round 1.

One step at a time od.

As far as wins go, I'll be looking for 8w/4l or better at the bye!

You have way more courage than me LH after this year I am too afraid to try to work out wins and losses. I would probably end up with a 4 win 8 losses result.

Now if only Viney could Mark, Kick, have a football brain and sprint we could have a good footballer on our hands.....

Lucufer.   A typical MFC near enough is close enough attitude - nothing wrong with aspiring to 12w /0l at the bye.  ??

mono it is a sad fact that we are talking about the MFC. Half a century of tradition cannot be ignored.

Yes, impresses supporters. But if players are following their programs, has zero impact on anything else.

Maybe, maybe not.

As I wrote the word 'intent' I remembered how Steve Waugh used it to motivate his team at the start of his captaincy, one of the most successful for the baggy green in the modern era.  Each and every player went onto the field 'with intent' regardless of how they felt in the moment.  Over time that became a psychological advantage for the baggy greens.  I would love to see our guys train and then play 'with intent' every game:  intent to tackle, intent to chase, intent to compete etc from which real and inferred pressure will (I hope) be created.

I've concluded that your field is psychology so take it easy on this mere mortal, amateur who knows only a little about motivation of teams.

I'm actually pleased that after years of Jones coming back early (from what I can recall) he's having a well-deserved break. I think most of us have moved on from any expectation that he will have an impact next year, but being free of the captaincy (and it has been a pretty tough tenure) and finding a fixed role might see him rejuvenated for a final tilt in 2020.

Speaking of intent:

Gawn, the best player at the club and easily in the best 18 players in the league by a country mile makes it to day one of training for the juniors,  2 weeks before he’s required.

Meanwhile we have others talented players on paper  (one who had a pathetic end to the season) that could be stars, are still on holidays overseas.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
