Phantom Drafts

I said while back that Flanders would be the Smokey that will rise into early calculations and it seems he is now in genuine top 3 talk. Good on the lad.

You honestly could not go wrong with Serong, Young or Flanders at 3.

All 3 are jets.

Haven't seen any of the above play, but as Serong was in this Phantom Draft as our pick, can you tell me a bit about what he would bring to the side that is a little different from what we have?  Genuinely curious.

There’s a video in the pick 3 thread @Wiseblood that I think really highlights his ball winning and crumbing in the forward line. He seems to have a bit of bulk on him, despite his short stature

Genuine Midfielder/Forward but will start and play majority of next at half forward. He played 5 games in the NAB league and averaged 24 disposals and kicked 5 goals. Played school footy also and absolutely dominated also.

178cm who could easily kick your 2-3 goals when up forward but then roll through the midfield and pick up an easy 25 to 30 touches around. Solid built who has the frame to make an impact straight away in the AFL next year.

Unlike Brayshaw, Viney and Oliver to an extent who are all pidgeon hole in the midfield, Serong has the ability to make a huge not only in the midfield but up forward also.

Thanks mate.

Sounds like he can bring something different to the side.  I like the fact he is a genuine goal kicker, and he strikes me as the sort of kid who could play down there from Round 1.

Also thanks to @Murph1524 for the heads up about the video.  I watched another one before and liked the fact that he can also use his left quite well.

I am torn between him and Young as my preferred pick though.

I really like Kemp, but know we desperately need a mid who can play forward and kick goals so that's Serong or Flanders from what you're describing for the 3.

Young looks like he'd also be good with quick ball movement from the back half and that is something else we need because it allows you to turn teams around forward of centre and make them defensively fragile

Is he another Charlie Spargo?

I've heard a number of times Taylor rates Cody Weightman as 3rd best player -   however, others don't and that's why we could look to split pick.

Yeah I also believe this to be true. Problem is, he seems to be this years bolter, and is rated higher each time a new phantom draft comes out. He may go as high as 10, so we have to be careful if we split pick 3, that we can still land him.

As a few others have said it's hard to see where we could really go wrong with the top end of this draft. some very good prospects and most fill a need for us.

I'm still leaning towards Lachie Ash because he offers so much of what we currently lack, a beautiful, long, accurate kick, genuine leg speed and a will to take the game on. but i would not be unhappy with many of the others mentioned.

if the Dockers do indeed get picks 6/7 i think it would at least be worth a phone call offering pick 3 and 22 or potentially even our future first to try and prize those two picks.

if we could get 2 of Young, Ash, Flanders, Kemp, Weightman, Serong i think we will have greatly improved our list

I don't know why they want to split. It didn't work last time and it won't work again. Pick the best player available.

Good call. I think they reckon it’s a flat draft after Rowell and Anderson. But (excluding Green) Young, Ash, Serong and Kemp are also all very very good prospects who are highly rated and worth holding the pick. Say Picks 12 & 18 for pick 3? Not sure it’s a good punt.

Not really.  It might have been posted four days after the one in the OP, but he's updated that to include the priority picks.  It's more up to date than the AFL one.

My bad, I meant to post this one from September:

I also didn’t realise that the other one had been been updated. My mistake.

Sharp and Taylor going in the mid to late 20s IMO shows this draft isn't as poor as some are making it out to be

There is so much throw it on the boot and get it fwd 50 meters at under 18 level, none of it tells us who can hit someone with a bullet kick at pace in traffic, something we sorely lack, from what I’ve seen and read Kemp is the best bet but he did an acl, given no one at Melbourne expected to have a pick 3 I wouldn’t be against a gamble on him.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
