When big clubs stop being big clubs

Be worth the MCC members to stay away from the players race when we lose. Clapping the players off when they put in a good effort but lose should not be tolerated. 

Is it too much to only want wins? Auskick kids play to have fun, professionals play for their future.

One of the most embarrassing things I've seen at the footy was when I took my young kids over to the players race after the game (a loss) so they could see the players close up.
The abuse the players were copping from grown men was an absolute disgrace.
When I realised what was going on I gathered the kids up and shot through.
That B SHYT is not the example of how adults are supposed to behave at the football.

And ya know what ..... The post game abuse didn't help.
We were crap the next week, and the week after that, and the ........

I agree with you there and l am not rubbishing the players as l am not one to do so . I had children that l took to watch the games and they still go win or lose . As adults they are,  they get disappointed as l do but it is not the end of the world. However you look at it a 10 goal loss or and a WELL DONE FOR TRYING   is not worth an applause and certainly i wouldn't heckle them for it and l don't abuse them.

It is not good enough and the culture is not right as they still carry scars of the past.

I am on the same page with you they have just got to try harder and give  their all like the good clubs do consistently.. I am sure they like what they earn. Maybe l shouldn't have mentioned the bs.

I send you this post for l am not one to bother usually.  However l enjoy reading your posts.

You can blame the administration of the times, however you are talking almost 60 years ago and we have moved on.

Every year I buy a membership & hope to experience what my tiger, bulldogs, hawk supporter mates have. I hate talking negative but as MFC supporters we certainly haven't had much to cheer about.

Really that is a nitpicking of use of words.

Challenging means contending and if you ain't doing either then you are not in the race.

Committed to winning is what ALL Clubs are (saying publicly or privately) but challenging/contending is the real achievement.

Yes it is only words and U believe the statement of our aims is exactly what we fans want.

Be a chance each season ie contend and challenge.

Well said, its a democracy & all should have the freedom to express their views either way negative or positive. Lets hope the club can break our flag drought to come together & celebrate!

How does the MFC compete against the bigger clubs in Victoria now?

With another sleeping giant awoken Richmond attracting 100K membership along with the Hawks, Cats, Pies and with the other sleeping giants of Ess, Bues & even the  Saints. Will the MFC run out of time to gain its share or just make up the numbers for survival??

• With no home base were do we celebrate as fans after seeing tigers Swan st celebrations, the streets of Casey???
• We train at Gosche paddock with our admin all over the place & yet no solution??
• Why can't we develop Gosch paddock  into a proper training venue like the pies did & build training & house all of our football/marketing etc under one roof

Sorry, the simplest way to compete is success and true success (ie winning flags).

We added 8,000 members between 2018 and 2019 on the back of a walloping in a preliminary final. 

If we won a flag, we'd get 70,000 members. If we can have sustained success we start to convert other fickle supporters from other clubs like Essendon did in the 90s and Hawthorn have done in the 10s.

We have a largely dormant supporter base too. It's not as big as the traditional Melbourne-based 'big' clubs, but that's due to years of being perennial losers. Winning flags changes that.

You win Premierships. You win even more supporters.

Nobody likes a loser.

And the Demons have made the finals only 13 times in the past 55 years and have not won a Premiership since 1964.

The massive aim is to change this around in the next 5 to 10 years.

and before you tee-off on me I am also (relatively) old, a long time member who is angry about MFC and 2019. Just don’t feel the need to keep harping on about the same problems day after day.

It’s a great time to compete with Vic clubs. Dons, blues and saints all poor. Hawks are in for a rough patch. 

As seen by our two finals last year with 90K plus the fans come out quickly when you win. Get that right and we’ll be fine off field
