Not sure why we would want this guy,   theres better options out there including on our own list.   We can play Joel Smith off half back if needed, and James Jordon is developing and shows promise.  And Marty Hore looks the goods already at AFL level.

Not to mention the likelihood of drafting Hayden Young at pick 3 who will walk into the team Round 1.

I think Joel Smith getting over the annual injury and playing footy is just a bonus from here on out, and we should not be planning our team around him being in it. Same goes with VDB. We really should be 'replacing' them with comparably good players. If they return to fitness then great, they can fight it out for spots, or we have surplus and trade value going into the future be it. I would not put Hore in the same category as Murray, Hore is more your Jetta type of lock down or 3rd man up defender and Jordon is speculative at this point.

If we took Young as you said, then yeah probably Murray will be surplus though, but who knows if we take him.

so we dont play Jake any more?

I assume you mean Melksham? And if so I really don’t know how you can compare the two.
Melksham was given drugs as part of a systematic club- wide cheating programs. He didn’t go out and take drugs on his own accord.

Melbourne, Richmond, Greater Western Sydney and North Melbourne are among the teams to register their interest in Murray, with the Demons considered as keen as any of them.

It remains to be seen whether the opposition interest in the defender will result in Collingwood looking to broker a trade, or do we pick him up as a free as a delisted free agent.

The 22-year-old has sat out of AFL football since August 17 last season, after traces of cocaine were detected in his system in a game-day test shortly beforehand.

Murray faced a four-year ban but will instead be eligible to play again on February 17, and can train at an AFL club from December 17.

He played all 13 of his senior matches in 2018 after two previous seasons at Sydney, averaging 21 disposals, five marks and four rebound 50s while earning a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

If he has been de-listed, then the Pies can’t broker anything.  He becomes a DFA regardless.  Trading players also stopped with the trade period.

What I find interesting is how little we ‘leak’ information - At best it is only media guesswork that we are on the list of ‘interested parties’.  Like us, they seem to know very little about our actual plans.

Apart from his ‘Mumford moment’, he has attributes that could be useful to the list.  I would not be unhappy if he was picked up by Melbourne.

Of that group you would think GWS might miss if he prefers to stay in Victoria and the Tigers also, as they would be harder to get a game with.

I would think the Roos and us would lead the group and unless money or contract was vastly different, the MCG might help us, as a venue to play at.

I don’t have much time for drug users but FWIW - Doping bans for 'street drugs' likely to be cut, too late for Murray

I’m assuming you mean aside from those “drug users” using caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and prescription drugs if all sorts..? ?

The article is about “street drugs”. That’s what I was referring to - in my professional life I’ve seen the damage and destruction they’ve done to young people.

That’s fair enough, and in your profession view how do those drugs compare to the damage and destruction done by alcohol?

I was recently speaking to a copper who said in his area 80% of his work involved attending domestic violence situations. Take away the alcohol and his workload drops by 50%. As he said d1ckhead blokes don’t become any more reasonable when on the grog.

It's one of the biggest double standards going around.

Alcohol is accepted and even celebrated as part of our culture, but drugs are "bad".

Legalise the lot or ban the lot.  I'm in favour of the former.

BTW, I have no vested interest here as I no longer drink, smoke nor take drugs (except the ones my Doctor prescribes).

Is your workplace the Central Hotel or Courthouse? If so, yes. A number of times.

I think the Dees should get this guy ASAP.

Is only 22yo and can run and kick. Exactly what we need. And he is FREE!

We still can take Young at 3 and Bennel as DFA.

Hibberd and Jetta getting on. And Murray is more daring and countering than Salem I believe.

I'd trust Salem's kicking and vision over Murray's "daring and countering" any day.

Not saying we shouldn't consider Murray, just that poor kicking undoes plays and structure very, very quickly.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
