So no then, stay hidden behind the safety of your keyboard

This is your big chance, you have been spouting on here for eons that you have a much better handle than the Chairman,  CEO, Head of Footy, Coach et al

Let's see you there raising the issues

I actually talk the players about other things besides footy, although I do get withdrawal symptoms during the off season......have taken to standing naked outside my apartment and howling in the direction of Goschs

You would be surprised what you get told when you can be trusted to keep it to yourself and not put it all over a forum

Did i say no i wasn’t going?

Yes you talk to the players. We all here about it ad nauseum, but much of what they tell you obviously is not factual.

One only has to read some of your training reports from last summer to know that. But when you are questioned you just say “oh well it’s only a game” or to posters like me, you put the boot in.

Many  Landers write great insightful training reports, that tell us what is going on and i really enjoy them

You Satyr are not one of those people

If you could go ahead and get me those TPS reports....that would be grrrrrrrrrreat. Classic movie.

I’ve let Pert know I can’t make the forum however sent in some questions I’ve asked for him to read out and answer.

On here. I imagine the forum will be quite spicy but I have no control over that.

A serious question.

If the cl6b want to know what hard core members think about the club then demonland would be an obvious place to ask. A for profit business would salivate over access to such rich and diverse feedback from customers.

Do you think the club would be interested in some form of interaction with dl? For example a thread where a rep responded to questions?

Would you (thats to say you) be open to such an idea?

I recall some comments that Schwab might have posted (before my time on dl) at some point.

A DL survey to ubderstand member attitudes would be the equivelant of conducting a census using only mental asylum patients as the sample.

For those calling for others to put up or shut up at the meeting lets look at what has been acknowledged by Pert in the letter/email already and do not need to be raised again.

Coaching area needs strengthening with new personal.

Fitness and conditioning area needs strengthening with new personal.

More changes still to come with acknowledges some personal under performing.

So drop of criticizing posters who pointed these issues out long before the Club acknowledged them as problem areas..

I'd be open to it but honestly the club has a bigger sample on their social media and on their email list.

2014 - 17th
2019 - 17th

This idea of "growth" at the club, that brainwashed players like Brayshaw and Jones have been spewing out in the media recently, is totally delusional. These are some of the facts of the last 5 years:

  • No premierships (AFL or VFL)
  • More losses than wins (63-50)
  • More losses than wins at the MCG (34-28), supposedly our "home" ground
  • No Brownlow medalists, only 3 All Australians (Gawn, Oliver, Hibberd) and 1 Rising Star winner (Hogan) who got traded

Not to mention the player and coach upheaval every year over the last 5 years. To quote @Sorry kids from last month, the "Club remains homeless and leaderless with no likelihood of a flag".

Growth my [censored].

Did we or did we not improve ladder position every year for 5 years? Nothing in your post refutes what is a clear fact.

No we didn't. We improved our ladder position for 4 years, not 5.

And if you call going from 17th in 2014 to 17th in 2019 "growth", then you are as brainwashed as everyone else at the club.

I have huge respect for your posts on Demonland but I have to disrespect you on this one. Sorry.

The Members forum is a failed Collingwood idea, where Eddie would try to calm the masses. It's not a Melbourne thing.

We are a bespoke club that should be centred around our history, our legacy and being small, efficient and smart. Quality over quantity.

Peter Jackson seemed to understand that, he linked the club in to the city and focused on the heartland. Pert's desire for 70k members and silly things like a members forum won't get us anywhere.

2018 is done. Finished. Mistakes have been made, they are being rectified. If the administration wants to rebuild trust with the fan base then get the players back in to training in November and preach community interaction at open training sessions. Shake some hands, talk to the people who turn up. Anyone else is just hot air.

My mistake. Wins not ladder position, I forgot that going from 2 wins to 4 wins didn't come with a step up the ladder. 4 years of ladder improvement, 5 years of wins improvements.

Even if making a prelim last year was overachieving we had 10 win and 12 win seasons before that, a long way from our goal but also miles from the dark days of 4 wins or the 2 win Neeld season.

Premierships are the aim, Brownlow's, Rising stars, AA's - popularity contests as much as anything most of the time. This years step back was dramatic but we won the same amount of games this year as Brisbane did last year and they are still a chance of making the grand final. It's possible to be critical about a lot of the club whilst still having some belief that we can get back to at least where we were in 16/17 if not better. I don't really buy the idea that the players aren't allowed to be positive, if they don't have belief that they'll bounce back what hope is there that it will happen?

Hope will come for the Club when the curse of '65 is lifted!

Collingwood did this a few years ago and didn't go well

On one hand it's good they acknowledge the need for members to air their grievances after the disappointment of this year but on the other I don't see what it is possibly going to achieve? Are members going to start questioning the coaches and selection committee on team selection, recruitment/drafting, game plans etc? It's ridiculous however the email explicitly states they wi not discuss any off field issues only on field (does a training base constitute on or off?)

Just do your job, make the necessary changes and show us the results starting round 1 2020. Anything else is just fugazi.

Schwab did this and was an unmitigated disaster. Created a thread, belittled the diehards on here and then disappeared refusibg to answer legitimate criticisms.

As above I'd hope the club just gets on with fixing the problem and getting results. Only results will placate the members.

Good point Dr G

I would prefer to see an interview of Goodwin by a well prepared journalist addressing the key issues.

This could end up as amateur hour.

A supporters forum would be much better if it looked at the various value propositions for different classes of supporters.

The club should make all efforts to get elite players to the club. When did we have any player of the on field caliber of de Goey or Dangerfield or Franklin (at his prime) in recent years? We get VFL rejects, old crocks that other clubs no longer want and crummy picks from the draft.

“Members will hear our learnings,” Gary and Glen say.

And they will hear our yearnings.

(‘learnings’ - sigh. And they used it twice!)

It’s a weasel word. ‘Lessons learned’ is correct English. Management fools love to use ‘learnings’ to look clever. They just look foolish.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
