I'd be interested in that, too.  I think with Goodwin, Mahoney and Pert still there, that is a good nucleus to present to players.  They could also put forward that, as a club, 2019 was totally unacceptable and we knew that changes needed to be made.  We need changes both on and off the field, and we are doing that.

Then again, I could be talking out of my back pocket as I have no real idea what goes on behind closed doors.  I know McCartney was offered a deal to stay but wanted to move on to new things, but the others might have been a mutual thing to help refresh the club as a whole.

And Richo has a reputation of getting on with players and being good at player development.

Mike Sheahan just said on SEN, Todd Viney is leaving Demons

The interesting part of that will be, if he stays in footy, or has got an opportunity in another field.I am guessing the latter.

I'm also hopeful that we add Yze to the coaching mix as well.  While we're hoping for a few wins in terms of the players we bring in, I think our biggest change for 2020 may be what happens off the field.

Season 2019 was simply out of the box.

Possibly worse than 1997, 2003 and 2007-2013.

Worse than 1997 and 1999, about onpar with 2003, but not anywhere near as bad as 2008, 2009, second half of 2012, 2013 or 2014.

Thanks for your service Todd. You have been part of taking us from a basket case to a club capable of on-field success

Loves the club, his house is often littered with young demons looking for a feed

I agree it is good timing to part

Respectfully put DD. Well said and I agree.

So where have you got your hands?

Is this confirmed yet, or implied?

You better wait and see Satyr, just like all of us.

Yet where he could have used his conflict of interest, re Ollie Wines, his son's mate, we didn't and totally wasted pick 4. A disaster that still costs us.

You think? The last thing we needed was another inside bull with average kicking skills.

There has been no indication that it ever was a conflict of interest.  You would like to think that Todd is professional enough to not allow that to happen.  I'd wager that, if it did, then Peter Jackson would have stepped in to remove him from the role a long time ago.

Either way, we will agree to disagree on that point.  One thing we do agree on is that it's a positive move for the club.  Todd has been there long enough.  Time for some fresh faces.

Even if there wasn't, and there would be few that would know outside the four walls, if it looks and feels like a conflict of interest it might have caused unrest amongst a few troops WB.  Maybe more than a few.

PJ clearly stated he was there to handle everything non-FD and he was leaving all calls regarding the FD/footy related to Roos.  Either way however, the Viney connection was ticked off well before now.

Having said that, has anyone that's played for a club/team here ever seen any conflict of interest when a player's dad/mum is involved at an official level?  I certainly haven't!  :pj:

I would have thought that, had it been a major issue before, it would have been stopped long before now.  Viney was there when Paul Roos was coach and it didn't seem to worry him too much.  I just don't think the conflict of interest was close to being anything more than a minor issue at best.

Surely you are joking. I have seen plenty.

Dad’s as coach of their son’s sport’s team, among the worst examples.

I think this is the example which shows there was NO conflict of interest. It is well known that Jack and Ollie were great mates, yet the decision was to recruit Toumpas who was disappointing.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
