Voss and Hird didn't do an apprenticeship, Neeld didn't even play AFL did he? Back to the thread, so you would appoint Jade when if Goodwin get the chop? Don't think so

Yep many of their supporters can be right pains in the [censored] and carry on whenever they happen to be going along alright as if they're the next AFL messiah.  Mind you they aren't alone here.  There's a few other Vic club supporters with similar traits.

The fact they owned us for quite some time with a mediocre side was an even bigger pain!   Great to see them holding up the right end of the ladder instead of balancing it in the middle rungs and out performing their list.

No I wouldn't, and nowhere did I say that. You didn't say anything about apprenticeships, you said Rawlings won't make a good senior coach because he doesn't have "mongrel". Just gave you 3 'mongrels' who were failures as senior coaches.

Take your point, although I'm not sure that a good senior coach at VFL level is going to be a good coach at AFL level. Often the better coaches are types that played with mongrel or extreme levels of competitiveness and can keep players on edge and their teams tend to play a similar style ...

This is so far from the truth.

One of the few highlights of 2020.

As you would appreciate a good coach needs lots of attributes.

Strangely after the back and forth, you actually agree he isn't a senior coach. Why dont you think he would make a good coach?

I never said he wouldn't make a good coach. My opinion is he needs a bit more experience, that's pretty much it.

If you ask the Casey boys, they all loved him as their head coach, and the MFC players all speak highly of him as well.

I think he'll be a senior AFL coach at some stage, just not quite yet.

He has been in the system long enough and coached this own sides at afl and vfl. His time had passed

He played 74 games at Geelong and Richmond.  A footy fan would probably be aware of this.

Ok, good chat.

Richmond and Geelong will be happy to hear you don't consider them AFL standard!

Thanks for the useless 2nd sentence

l said often. If l look at the premiership winning senior coaches of recent times over half had mongrel or were ultra competitive types as players. They clearly need to have other attributes but the former helps

Either the bros fell out of love or GM Football (or someone on high) overruled the coach on who is on his team...

As an aside, one has to wonder who is pulling the strings at North - plenty of ex-players putting their bib in.  In a world of hurt...

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
