That is how bad 2019 was. How can you look at it any differently. We still don’t really know how well Goodwin can Coach.

Fagan or Goodwin...?

Goodwin’s 2018 Dees won their first two finals.

Fagan’s 2019 Lions lost their only two finals.

Who knows what Fagan’s 2020 will be like?

I’d say that at this point in time they’re probably level pegging.

I doubt The Lions will crash as hard as we did, but 2020 will tell.

Regardless 2019 will make it harder to entice Players across.

We need a forward badly

Not having a crack, not being a defeatist either.

You think Elliot didn't come to us because of Goschs?

I'd say he was always going to stay or go to Brisbane, where he spent his youth and where his bro lives. Also probably because we might be outbid in terms of amount per year.

Our facilities aren't the best, but they haven't deterred May, Lever, Hibberd, Melk, Tomlinson or Langdon

It is not an absolute, he would be very familiar with our facilities, why would he downgrade?  People only do that for money. Obviously when you have 12 or more million dollars each year to pay players you are going to attract some players. Hardly an exciting list of recruits over 5 or more years. One flag between them. Best and fairests?

I don't know what all the hype is about......Elliott was never, ever, going to come to the MFC as much as we all would have liked to see it transpire.

Fagan is probably the best coach outside of Clarkson.

Just trying to be positive, rather wallow in constant negativity. So we have terrible facilities, terrible players, and can't do anything right. Got it.

Carry on!

I admire you being positive. I went to games for decades, literally, thinking we were a chance to win every week. However the Club needs to be entirely and brutally honest with where they are at as of now. None of us really know what next year will bring on the field but we can control things like our environment, facilities, coaching personal and so on. All of those things must be open to scrutiny just like most of us and most organizations have to deal with on a constant basis.

I understand and it's been heavily documented on here that Goodwin is under pressure

You'd hope that any genuine prospects that want to come to the club would not make a superficial decision based on one bad year?

May and lever prove the point that we have to pay overs to attract quality players. Sorry but if you do not think the playing arena is not of critical importance you are wrong and go against the MFC stated aim of finding an MCG sized venue for training.

What are you talking about? How much did Collingwood pay for Treloar? Essendon for Shiel and Richmond for Prestia?

Strawman argument.

You can hope that. I think certain players have done exactly that. We were lucky to 5 games, could have easily been 2 games for the year, plus we lost the last 7 coming home. There was no improvement after the bye.

There is no way Player Managers are going to be pushing The MFC as a good destination. It is a great prospect for Assistant Coaches, as a challenge, but i don’t think players would view it that way, not this year. We (the Club) did cause damage this year, there will be ramifications because of it.

It will be a tough 10 days trading for us

Other Clubs just buy up, we are right down the pecking order this year

Embarrassing if Brisbane pipe us here and he ends up in QLD.

Are we going to boo Elliot like we booed Judd because we were mad he didn't choose us?

Why is it embarrassing?

Because we courted him all year, but they just jumped in at the last minute. We also offered more than them, so it’s a direct slap in the face. Once again we miss out on the talent and have to settle for discards and NQRs. Nothing changes with this club :(

Right. So you want to comment on the market, without any knowledge of the market, and you want us to take you seriously?

Yeh that’s rubbish that Brisbane jumped in at the last minute, they didn’t offer Christensen or Taylor new contracts during the season and they’re still yet to be offered contracts. Both are small forwards, my money’s on Brisbane waiting to see what Elliott does before Taylor and Christensen are re-signed.

Brisbane have been after Elliott for some time.

I think he was referring to Garlett but your point would still be correct.

Edit: actually he might have been referring to Kent.

He was referring to Kent.

It seems like a lot of time and effort and expense just to end up with an injury prone small forward on a 3 year deal. After we'd booted one such for wanting a 3 year deal.

I concede that Elliott is the more dangerous player, but not by so much that it's worth all the palaver.

All moot now anyway.

Following that logic, surely StK and Carlton would have no one wanting to join them?

Oh, wait...

Difference is that there's a general expectation to compete at those clubs. Competitive people often like to be in competitive environments.

The players efforts of 2019 have resigned us to having to build again through the draft (that outcome may not actually be the worst thing). Hopefully we can uncover a couple of people with the kind of drive to compete and show linear type improvement through to their late 20's (and maybe become the second person at MFC to do that since Jones started).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
