    As for the Umpires it appears that if the crowd don't call for it they appear oblivious to what should happen. Looked OK until half time then went pear shaped. Do they Really  Know the Rules?????????????????????????????

    Yes something is amiss with him. Gets the pill but turns it over to much for my liking. But at least he is getting it which is allot more than some on this team. Some of the efforts in last quarter particularly by our forwards was inept to say the least. They just let Lions backs just take it out to easily and some just did not put the effort in . In front of us a couple of our forwards were just jogging around doing F all.

    He does not look happy or enjoying playing. He seems a very determined young man who has over committed  to the physical side of training and playing at the expense of skills. It has got him so far, and yes last year he was a standout but will struggle without improved skill application. Take a look at his effort 30 metres out in the right forward pocket yesterday. He had no idea how to align his body to the goals-target and kick truly. Now if the coaches do not pick up on things like that then as an individual and a team we will never improve.

    I wasn’t blaming the umpires, the better team will always win, the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the coaches and players. Just interesting that we didn’t get a free kick after half-time. 

    Drink is way too low on the list.

    In regards to Trac the pass was directed straight at his feet so can forgive him for fumbling it. The pass should have been straight at his chest yet due to lack of skills AGAIN it was a bad pass. 

    The skill level of this team is appalling for professional footballers. It’s the worst in the afl. 

    Auskick teams have better skills than us atm. 

    If we can fix the skills and that’s a big if we would be a good team but we have been waiting a while for this to happen so don’t hold your breath. 

    I agree but he still shouldn't have fumbled it.

    We either handball to our teammates feet or loop it up in the air forcing them to sit and wait and inevitably get crunched in a tackle or dispose under pressure creating the start of a chain of panic disposals that inevitably leads to a turnover.

    It drives me beserk.

    He was good offensively but how did he go defensively? There was one play in the 3rd quarter where he lost Lincoln McCarthy who took an easy mark deep in the forward line from a centre clearance.

    And interrupted preseasons and injuries is not an excuse for poor form. It is a reason. The same reason the Tigers are struggling this year.  

    I dunno. I'm holding out until next year to see how the club rebounds from this disastrous season. I've been quietly confident that we've been on the right track but I'm starting to waiver. If TMac and Weideman can't step up to the plate and if Goodwin refuses to adjust the game plan I'm sceptical we will turn this around enough to be perennial contenders and challenge for a flag.

    We desperately need a key forward who can take the game over like Hipwood did yesterday. We need a small forward who can crumb and has goal sense. We need 2x outside mids with pace and skill. We need greater composure and/or a game plan that allows the players to play tempo footy instead of 100mph straight towards goals 100% of the game. We need Lever on the park and Petracca to attack the game like the beast he threatens to be.

    That's a lot of things we need to find/change/go right if we're to challenge next year.

    I think Jones might be smart enough to understand he can squeeze in a few more years as a defender. I think it has merit. On the other hand I think Viney only knows one way and that is bash, crash chaos footy. A leader for earlier times but not todays footy.  I did not like what may did yesterday, on the other hand if he was captain I would support it. He should put his hand up for 2020.

    Drink is -100. ie drink before the game starts. Well before.

    Surely we all agree that Salem will have nothing to answer for after his hit yesterday with the Big O. Still a tad nervous when the MRO is involved though, there’s been plenty of ? moments previously.

    No excuse but imagine being a player after the weekend and then having to back up and attend training at Goschs Paddock. 

    Imagine you do not believe in Goodwins game plan but have to carry it out.

    Imagine you do not believe in Vineys crash and bash leadership style.

    Imo preseason surgeries are no excuse for pathetic skills.

    Terrible the kneejerk responses on this site.

    Some perspective: we have had the absolute worst by a big margin injury list this year. Players come back but it takes time to get match fit and new players to the club need time to settle. 

    Brisbane has the least injuries of any club. Only one player (Cutler) is currently not available. They are settled, well coached I admit and well lead, but they know one another's games. Our blokes are second guessing about one third of their teammates.

    Hipwood has played 66 games and usually stuffs up at least half his disposals. He averages 1.5 goals a game. He kicked five. Too bad. He kicked like a donkey a few weeks ago and cost them the game. This time he didn't. Our lousy luck. Weid had played 29 games for just under one goal a game. Get off his back. It's too soon to make a call on him.

    Having said that I really cannot credit this week's lack of midfield attack but bad games happen. These are the times to stay staunch.

I am sure of one thing players get a lift when they have good support at training. It is human nature. 

    On a positive the best two things I  ever saw as a Dee supporters was a full stadium , I think it was at the Junction, welcome to correct me the Thursday before our first finals appearance in 87. I have never seen the camaraderie, before our since and our  lap around the G before the game two days later.

    It was the junction oval, how often did you go to training there?

      A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

      Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour.       The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

      The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace.They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
