Brayshaw and Petracca should always play middle with Harmes and Oliver as they are just better in there with Trac as a bull and Gus the class.

Id use Viney as the next rotation and train him as a small forward tackling machine aka Dauhaus.

We need a big presence up forward and I believe a May or Preuss would go a long way to fixing this, along with the return of Melksham.

TMac must be rested or sent back.

Jones and Garlett are at the ends of their careers now so have to bring on the likes of Lockhart and Dunkley .

Viney is a limited footballer and in no way in the same class as Dahlhouse, who has the tricks and smarts to play forward.

Viney is an inside mid and thats it.

We have three major problems IMO

The 110 point  forward line of 2018 has just imploded.

1. Hogan left

2. We still only get Gimpses of Sam who apart from finals last year struggled.

3. Vanders is injured.

4. Hannan injured and out of form.

5. Omacs brother.

6. Garlett is past it.

7. Kents gone.

8.No viable crumber.

Weed presented well too.

I thought we kind of played ok, they were at it and only lapses let the filth get a few easy goals, still some players who are dismally out of form, like Viney, Jones, McDonald, and players who shouldn’t be in there, Spargo, Wagner. Hannan was dodgy but he’s just coming back, and I reckon Lever and May will be absolute guns for us if they stay on park. Blokes in middle still doing it for us and Petracca was good too... keep them on park, get Milkshake and VDB back we’ll win 5-7 more games this year!!

WTF is Wagner still getting a game for, ANB is better than this bloke

I reckon if we were winning, we’d all be patting each other on the back about how well J.Wagner was just “playing his role” and going about his business as a foot soldier on our march to glory.

He’s not that bad a player, but he’s not that good either. The problem is, when your team is poo and you’re looking for a hero, players like Wagner offer no point of difference. He will pretty much always fit in with the scenery. At the moment the scenery is a giant bucket of pus, which is fairly unflattering for the beige players like Wagner.

As I sat in the MCC with my Collingwood supporting father a young lad from the MFC family in the row in front turned around to me and completely unprovoked said "Why are Collingwood so smart when they take the ball inside 50 and Melbourne are so dumb?"

I've never been so dumbfounded/amazed/proud/depressed in the space of 1 second.

I am no "simpleton" and did not say its all his fault. Clearly the players are serving up dross as well. It wasnt them who made the grand statement about "building something special" though. He wears that by himself.

I never said you were a simpleton, I said it was a simplistic argument. You know what they say about truth...

And Jones has said it at least as well... so I am not sure what you're referring to.

My point still stands that execution is a massive problem.... IMO structure is not

Forward line missing lack of a tall forward deep in the square where he could smash into the opposition and bring the ball to foot where our smalls could  take advantage. Needed a tall that can take a mark and kick a goal.  Tim Smith a late withdrawal for??????????

WHERE IS PREUSSSSSSSS! the missing link.  He doesn't win us the game however  we would have made a game of it.

Petracca has played his best game  today and has now strung 3 good consistent weeks so far. Keep it going.

Gawny  you proved who the best ruckman is as you outpointed Grundy. AA all the WAY!

You are probably right and I have been calling for his head as well but I noticed him at the ball a lot today so he seemed to stand out.

Reckon if Spargo got properly fit and turned fat into muscle he’d be a good rover forward pocket

Managed to find a new level today MFC. Childlike.

I miss Peter Jackson. Gary Pert - rubbish.

Tank gun now slowly but surely turning to Goodwin in the tower.

Jury's still out in Pert but don't see how our performance is in any way related to him

Your dad is s smarter than you(AND ME).

Is it actually really possible to kick for goal so shythouse 5 weeks in a row, then TMac misses what would have put us within 14 points. Someone make it stop, it's absolutely doing my head in.

8 problems and you missed the 2 of the 3 that really matter.

Number 1 is Tom McDonald turning in to a cactus

Number 2 is Melksham - the 3rd tall match up player who can goal as well as hit targets inside 50

Number 3 is the 110 point forward line largely existed against crap sides. We were held to a lot less by good teams for a lot of the year.

Agreed but What replacements do we have?

Goodwin's got until QBD 2020, exactly 12 months, to right the ship and bring in the necessary reinforcements at trade time. Or he'll be gone.

Have no doubt about it.This can't continue.

Jackson and Roos are out there watching four years of work tossed on a bonfire.

What a complete load of rot.

Harsh on Fritsch. Besides the 2 miss kicks he was good throughout the day

I assume he was the clown behind us wearing a clash jumper against the Pies. Weak rubbish like that won't help us.

Why no free kick to Hore just after half time when Stephenson put his hand on the back of his head?

See point 5.

I do love supporters saying Goodwin isn’t the blame because he isn’t the one kicking poorly. Mate, he’s our senior coach. He is to blame for our poor structure, for our lack of game plan forward of the ball, for giving out of form and soft players games every week, for repeating the same thing week in week out and expecting the same result.

Sure he isn’t telling McDonald to miss a regulation shot and ruin our momentum and hence the game, but he is picking a half fit player who can’t move when he has a second ruck in the VFL who can just as easily stand in the goal square and do SFA.

The blame falls on his shoulders. To suggest otherwise is to give him a free pass he doesn’t deserve.

AFL decide that. Club has no say.

You've lost it with dropping Fritsch. One of the few in this side who can run and link up. Yeah his game has issues, disposal goes hot and cold and his defensive positioning isn't ideal , hardly a surprise for a skinny kid with very little backline experience but he's exactly the player we need more of not less. Almost any team in the comp would love to have someone like Fritsch developing in their side.

Was at the game. Great summary nasher.

But Viney's lack of a right foot is now a huge issue. All clubs know this.

Viney's hard as nails, etc etc, but his only remaining football attribute is to grab the pill, run headlong into 2 or 3 oppo, take them to ground while pretending the ball is pinned to him, and force a ball up. Turning our possession into a 50-50. (Hint Jack: it's supposed to work the other way round.)

The only current upside (for me) is that my son is only 8 weeks old, so he can't fully appreciate how bad we are right now, or what I've done to him by preparing him for life as a Dee.

He watched today's game on my lap and fell asleep. Smart kid (chose not to watch, and also got some much needed shuteye).

I though the same when mine was similar age.. he’s almost 4 now, the other one is almost 1.... I don’t feel good for them for what I have done. My wife “was” a bombers fan but know tells people we’re a Melb family.

What have I done to them.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
