Matsuo Basho 1,053 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) Clearly it's too big a risk to run with Weid and TMac again in 2019. The former may or may not come on and the latter may just have been a one season wonder in 2018. He is not a natural forward anyway. If we're serious about competing for the Cup next year priority number one must be a goal square gorilla who can bullock, straighten us up and kick 45+ in the process. The backline cavalry is set to return, the midfield quality is there, but with Hogan gone priority number one on the trade front is obvious. Free agency presents an interesting if ageing bunch. Levi Casboult, Ben Reid, Sam Day, Jarryd Roughead, Majak Daw, Justin Westhoff and Josh Kennedy (WC) are listed as as 2019 FA's. Would any of them offer something for a couple of seasons for an MFC priming itself for a flag tilt in 2020? And if so who'd be gettable do you think? I'm a fan of the left field option of having a crack at "The General" Jon Patton as some of you know. Huge risk versus reward option I know but the Hawks are keen and we should be able to trump them in terms of an offer to GWS given our ladder position. He wouldn't cost the Earth like some of the names people come up with like Jeremy Cameron and Ben Brown, although I would not be averse to us having a crack at the latter. And what about Esava Ratugolea as an option? Let's get creative Demonlanders and solve this pressing piece of the list puzzle. Edited June 5, 2019 by Matsuo Basho 1 Quote
ErmieJones 63 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I like Sam Day, surprised to see him not play for Gold Coast. Can be injury prone though. 1 Quote
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Or maybe we can wait until closer to the end of the season before presuming we are looking for a kpf for next year. I'm sure Mahoney and Todd Viney will be well advanced in looking at a variety of current players. Not sure ot will be a forward to replace Tmac or Weid, who have clearly not been going at 100%. Personally, I think an A grade mid with good pace and foot skills is a higher priority. Coniglio (FA) or Whitfield would be nice. Not saying I wouldn't be happy with another kpf, just not Patton who has had 3 knee recos. Ben Brown would cost us 2020 first round pick. What would Tomlinson cost? 3 Quote
John Demonic 5,988 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) This is the thread to start after we see how May & Lever are supposed to sure up our defence. Been saying it for the past 3 months. We need to assess which forward to target once it's become absolutely assured that we do need to bring one in Edited June 5, 2019 by John Demonic 1 Quote

John Demonic 5,988 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) Roughead is an interesting one given he's mates with Lewis. I haven't seen much Hawthorn this year, does he have 1 year left? Seems not. But could we bring him in just to fill the void in TGR's life left by the retirement of Lewis? Edited June 5, 2019 by John Demonic 1 Quote

I think the opposite, I’d play them both in the forward line for the rest of the season. The seasons a write-off so nothing to lose. Let them get some continuity working together and hope they gel and find form. There’s a good chance we won’t land a big forward over the off-season who will solve our forward line woes so they may be all we have again next season. So you don’t want to take a risk with Weed and T Mac but want to bring in a bloke who has 3 knee recos and achieved nothing of note when playing. I’d be sticking with what we have got if Patton is our only option. 5 Quote

As long as Weid is with us next year, which is unknown. But I think Joel Smith could be an option here. Similar in size to Jeremy Cameron, and we know he can kick goals 1 Quote

If we end up with pick 5-10 every chance it will come into play for a key forward. Goodwin will be acutely aware that the club can not afford another season like this one. Jobs on the line time. Ben Brown would be one worth the risk IMO. Are we fair dinkum or just going to play it safe from here? You’ve got to roll the dice. Edited June 5, 2019 by Matsuo Basho Quote

—coach— 3,496 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 45+ goals per game equals 1.95 goals per game, hmmmm not sure who we could get that averages 1.95 goals per game. May just have to make do with Preuss. 2 Quote

If he and TMAC were swingmen, it would wreak all kinds of havoc on the opposition, having them move back or forward at a whim. Running into the 50 to spoil or mark on the run. You'd be terrified of a Steven May running back with the flight. The unpredictable factor could be one of our weapons. Goody might need to think outside the box for something like this, for 2020 to give us an advantage. Edited June 5, 2019 by John Demonic Quote

JV7 2,375 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 If Weideman was at another club I guarantee a lot on this board would be calling for us to chase him. We saw his potential at the end of last season, he showed improvement on the weekend barring the obvious miss. Also people crying we've had no first round draft picks yet calling for us to trade it for a key forward this year... Please. TMac & Weideman are not alone on their output from the back end of last year. Chill the F/%k out and give the 11 remaining games a go before calling for these changes 11 Quote
Damo 3,466 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Brown for me. Can make a silk purse out of a Demon midfielders kick. Quote
