Love that some on here are trying to set up the story that if we lose its because Preuss wasn’t selected... so they can somehow feel vindicated when we lose.

Really!

We’ve been decimated with injuries and the coaching panel have developed and are deploying their best strategy to enable us to win... and it don’t include Pruess, and they (our coaches) know a lot more than any on here.

and we’ll still probably lose, but have given it our best crack.

some respect

go Demons.

If we lose it won’t be because we didn’t pick Preuss and it’s nothing to do with feeling vindicated if we lose as u suggest.

He is ready to go and showed good form last week and should be in the team. He provides great support for Maxy. It’s pretty simple.

...and how's that going for them this season????

A tale of 2 teams

Last year in the prelim, we were on fire, hungry, and playing with nearly a full team (plus we were feared and favoured, which was no doubt helped by the fact that we had recently beaten the Eagles at the same ground). Then we got belted.

This year, we are out of form, still fairly unfit, and having to choose from the most depleted list in the league. It doesn't bode well. Arguably we should lose by more as all the factors that were in our favour in the prelim no longer exist. It really could, and should be ugly.

But is it too much to dream? I love an underdog story. Maybe I'm just fatigued (1 month newborn at home), but this is the exact sort of game good teams can win. It's not impossible. Unlikely, sure, but impossible?

I've tipped us by 1 point. We CAN do this.

Go Dees! ??

Hey congrats on the new arrival ! ??

Agree

We don't lose because of no Preuss... unless we lose by less than 2 goals then I retract!

The point is we drafted Preuss to support Max, and we have 17 injuries and are playing the team that doubled up on Maxy to destroy us!

And we choose not to play Preuss...

Thanks! Exciting times ? Before the start of the year I thought I was going to have to manage competing joys of fatherhood and a huge year from the Dees. As it's eventuated, I've had no distractions at all with being a good Dad haha. Let's hope we get things together before the kid is old enough to pick a team (I've already bought his gear).

Game hasn’t even started and Ling is already broadcasting his ignorance perpetuating the myth that the prelim final wasn’t reviewed.

The mascot was the only one to kick a goal in the run out.

Great omen.

Preuss should have been picked.

Well, at the end of this game Goodwin will either be a master coach or have NFI...

General question - whys Carey  called the “Duck”? And what’s with the black eye???

Good point. But it was more the exterior I noticed this time!

Which applies even moreso to Tim Smith. Which is perhaps why Smith is included and Preuss isn't.

(just a wild guess ...)

There is still time for a very late change for a player who is sore/injured during the warm-up eg Oscar if he is sore from last week.  It really can't be Petty as it wouldn't be fair to select him and drop him at the last minute.

The thing is it was just so obvious WCE would bring in Hickey at the last minute.  If Preuss doesn't come in Goodwin has a good reason.

If we don't bring in Preuss and WCE tag and work Max over again I hope Goodwin has a very big flack jacket as fans (DL's) will have mega meltdowns be they warranted or not.

Thanks LH.   Personally I think they’re nuts not to play Pruess tonight!

He’s playing v well ATM, WC are planning to work Max over again, which also increases Maxs’ risk of injury, but also, though he’s had little to beat this year, Pruess has been our best KPF this year !  (On the rare occasion we got to see it).

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
