Deesprate 1,324 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 As depressed as I am about the Dees after watching GC am sure where better than them. Boy if we lose that one in two week we really will be at rock bottom! Quote
Clintosaurus 7,953 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 St Kilda are once again getting an armchair ride from the umpires. It can't be a coincidence when it happens every week. Quote

Boy if we lose that one in two week we really will be at rock bottom! Just because our list is out of balance for '666', does not mean we are worse than the GCS's of the AFL... It just means we're out of balance in the list Re run and pace. Reasonably easily sorted, but not for this season. And we are a young list... other than 3 or 4 older players. Its imperative that we get the likes of Viney And TMc fit and healthy for 2020. treat them with kid gloves this year and get them Rehabbed... and same with Lever as well. Get him right 125%... before taking any risks with him.May can get fit and play out the 2nd jhalf of the season. IF we are without Viney and TMc playing, in the above scenario, then Jones and Lewis will be critical On-Field, to make sure May and others are on the best behaviour on-field & around the club, Regarding culture, etc. Edited April 27, 2019 by DV8 Quote
Little Goffy 14,963 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 For what it is worth, our next two opponents are the two worst clearance teams (on differential) this season, and Gold Coast have just shown how vulnerable they are even from centre clearances. Meanwhile, something to watch for tonight just out of curiousity, Bulldogs have an incredible, as in, not credible, suspicious even, Free kick difference to opponents of 7.2 per game, with only Collingwood having more than 3 (3.7) out of all other teams. If someone can explain to me what is going on there, I'd love to know. It's not as if they are getting first to the contest or laying lots of effective tackles! Meanwhile, what ze ell, I've just been finding a commentary led by BT and I think even featuring Billy Bronwnless, amusing and informative. The world has gone mad. Surely it was just a flash in the pan, they can't keep this up, can they? Quote
dees189227 12,512 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Well done to David Mundy on his 300th tonight. They have only been around for 25 years and yet have produced more 300 game players than us. Yes only by one but still, I do wonder why we have never produced more being the oldest club and all. Saints have come back. Will be an interesting last quarter. 3 Quote
Deesprate 1,324 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 It just goes to show Melbourne can make average team look good. Adelaide exposed the Saints today as a bottom eight side. Crows have killed them. 1 1 Quote

First in 2016 and 2017, fourth in 2018 and now practically lapping the field in 2019. Interesting that their free kicks 'for' isn't that far off normal, but there is a consistent pattern of very few free kicks against them. It must just be the super-clean and honourable culture of the club... uh huh. And today's trivia - at this stage only one Bulldogs player features in the top 100* for free kicks against, that would be 19yr old Ed Richards, at equal 74th with 1.4 per game. Meanwhile, all of Macrae, Wallis, Liberatore and Bontempelli feature in the top-30 for free kicks in their favour, and 6 more feature in the top 100. *stats are average per game and don't include tonight's game against Freo. And the most glaring one was the failure of the ump to award a 50 metre penalty for running into the protected zone when Tom Scully had a the ball on the wing in the dying moments of the prelim against GWS. If the correct decision was made it would have put Scully about 40 metres from goal to kick the winner. Quote

Lol, come on now, it is not as if the Bulldog's player ran, from behind, clearly after the mark had been taken, directly through the area Scully was anticipating breaking loose into, when there was nobody else on hand to prevent Scully just scooting directly past his much slower opponent. It was an infringement the umpires had been paying all year, irrespective of the circumstances, and they chose to ignore this one. My point is that the Dogs were favoured all that year by biased umpiring. They even turned the throwing of the ball into an art form which aided their game plan. Again, the umpiring let them get away with this. The free kick differential for 2016 was staggering beyond belief. Quote
Nasher 33,686 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Been watching the Freo Bulldogs game, one highlight for Freo is their talls in Hogan and Taberner taking marks. Liked the move of TMac back to defence to get him back in the game again, but this has reinforced to me that we have to get him back playing as a marking forward ASAP. We also have to persist with Weideman. I’m 100% convinced that if we can correct that one single aspect of our game, rapid improvement will come. 4 Quote

Adelaide exposed the Saints today as a bottom eight side. Crows have killed them. We sure do. We are a slow panicky turnover king team that can't run the ball with link up play consistantly, cant hold on to the ball with possession footy (worst disposal team in the AFL), cant hit up targets or convert virtually any ground ball to goals inside 50 nor keep it locked in our 50 with whatever press we are attempting. The opp runs it out.of the press generally with ease and they're off to the races usually transitioning far too easily into an open forward line and converting at a high % as a result. Not hard as we are generally one paced and can't chase down (Hunt the one exception on rare occasions ...and now Jeffy IF he can get going) or close down quickly enough. When we do get it inside 50 (mostly bombing) our forwards aren't even taking many contested marks. T-mac & Weids averaging a massive 2.2 marks per game between them inside 50 prior to the Tigers match. Neither of them impacting the scoreboard. We get a stack of clearances and contested but that's about it. Very little on the outside spread to stretch and make our opponents chase us and fatigue. Leaving them pretty fresh when we turn it over...which we do alot as the worst turnover team in the AFL. The opp does exactly the reverse at stoppages. Having at least one (sometimes two) player/s sitting on the outside (skinny and/or fat side) waiting for the spilled or knock on ball to come out then linking up inside (or along the line) on the overlap for the easy hit up inside 50. We play the zone almost always and are too slow (or lazy...bit of both?) to close down space on opponents quickly enough to pressure or force enough turnovers. As a result we are the easiest team to play and score on in the AFL at present. Just a little bit of work to do! 1 Quote

buck_nekkid 6,101 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Some of the footy is totally unwatchable. Add to that feeble commentary and it is a right turn off. The rule changes have not had their desired effect. The game looks more contrived, poorly umpired and low on overall entertainment value. 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,772 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) Not hard so far to pick all the winners for this round. In the main humdrum football. My maximum TV watch these days is 2-3 games and quite often it's only the second half/last quarter if the game is close. Strange thing us that with my kayo sub allowing me to watch all 9 games I probably watch less than when I was watching FTA. Edited April 28, 2019 by Diamond_Jim Quote
