I reckon we have shut up shop.

I can't see how Mahoney and co. escape this trade period without getting a forward of some description. The price on their heads if our forward line continues to kick low scores next year would be phenomenal. At the bare minimum they need to at least organise the splitting of pick 3 so we can bring some talented young forwards.

Going by what Mahoney was saying on trade radio I think you are in for a rude shock. Seems like we will hit the Draft for a small forward. Wasn't no mention of going after any forwards that were available in the trade.

I know Mahoney is a bit of a straight shooter, but I don't think he's really going to give up everything going on behind the scenes. Maybe something pans out and we get what we're looking for, but imo its a failure if we fail to either trade for or split the pick to draft a small/tall forward this trade period.

Wouldn’t hold your horses on Mahoney balancing out our list. We are now lacking small forwards, small defenders, tall forwards, tall defenders. Hell, we will even be short on the wing if Tomlinson or Langdon get injured or fail to perform.

We are all watching to see if Essendon get more for Daniher then we did for Hogan. Right now it’s looking even at picks 5/25 for Daniher against 6/23 for Hogan.

If injury plagued 2 year older and only 1 year away from FA goes for more then Hogan it will tell us a lot about Mahoneys negotiating ability.

Watch us draft more inside mids this draft.

Good trade period to date. Addressed out most glaring need for run.

We were the highest scoring team in 2018 so the scoring power is there we just need to play to a system. Drafting in a small fwd is a must also

Lost Hogan (40 goals) and Garlett (albeit missed half the season) from that side plus decent fwd cover in Tim Smith. Tmac and Weideman have been constantly injured since then. We're really putting the house on those 2 plus Fritch, Melk and Trac producing 100 goals between them. I'm bullish that our offensive game will recover next year, but there's an awful lot riding on what was mentioned above as wells as some decent draftees having a big impact. I really hope as many do that we'll get our act together, however if Tomlinson and Langdon is all we get out of the trade period, there's just something that doesnt assure me we'll bounce straight back up from 17th into finals contention.

Hogan was a big loss but he ended up injured again...

a full season out of Fritsch, Trac and Melk. and we will look a different team up fwd.  those 3 playing together with T Mac and Weed are 3 hard match ups.  add in a small pressure fwd and it is not bad.

all 3 can mark, kick long goals, can get ground balls, set up play etc.  bring on next year! (I love the off season  :-))

I love your optimism, but I think we’re taking an enormously dangerous punt on Weideman finally working out, Tmac finding 2018 form, both of those two staying injury free and all our other forwards bagging 30 goals or so each. Unfortunately we copped some unlucky injuries this year, however the club shouldnt be complacent on saying that wont happen again next year and just sitting by this trade period. What happens when one of weideman or tmac goes down, or both? Sure we have Petty that could swing forward, but if we’re seriously resorting to that we are genuinely rooted. I just dont see where the goals are coming from next year. We cant seriously  be competing with the top half of teams with the forwards we have now + a few draftees.

Joe Daniher was an All Australian 2 years ago and has a similar injury history to Hogan, who Fremantle traded in with a serious navicular injury.  The trade value you've proposed is essentially the same.

I'd prefer Daniher in the team.

I didn’t propose that, it’s what Deodoro rejected.

Mitch Cleary thinks that we wont bid on Tom Greem which then means it probably makes sense that we wont be splitting our pick 3.

Daniher >>>>> Hogan. At his best Daniher tears backlines apart. He just can't kick straight often enough

It probably means we know that GWS are going to take the player we want with 3, if they get it. That player would therefore be worth more to us than 2 players a bit later on.

Its the reverse of the Kelly deal and I hope if we do that we get it right.

completely different sorts of players tho

daniher has more exposed form, but has missed so much football as well - and hasn't had anything like the emotional issues that hogan had to deal with at the same time that his body was letting him down again

you can understand why swans don't want to pay top dollar for him, despite tapping him up; really it's on them to get it done now

I have heard a few people say the Giants would be keen on Serong if they got the opportunity so assuming that's true, i wonder if that means he's our preference over Young, Ash, Kemp

Young at pick 3   Ash or Flanders at pick 8.

geez. that'd be a good result.

Something May be brewing..

So now Melbourne have picks 3 and 8 in this year's draft after pick swap with North. Do the Demons have an ace up their sleeve for a player trade we haven't heard about?

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
