No chance. GC aren’t looking for a win-win. They’re looking to make a statement, that players won’t be allowed to just leave each year, even if it means cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Similar to Port with nick stevens.

you're probably right, i just think it's foolish on their part.

Yes and no. Gotta make a stand at some point. Otherwise install a revolving door.

I think they'd be much better off addressing the problems they have before they make a stand. King imo is going to leave this year, or next year, and with pick 3 on the table they might as well get max value and hope the off field changes enable them to keep their top 3 picks

What if, by chance, GCS don't get picks 1 & 2.

Would you trade 2 for King?

Anderson and Rowell are tantalising.

I guess we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

Ok then, so we can't speculate on a footy forum? Righto.

How good is King?

We still need midfield class if we are serious about competing. I understand scoring was an issue this year but I believe that can be addressed easier than our midfield problems.

I'd still take King over Anderson, just, gotta go with the key forward.

Fantasy trade/draft pick wish list V2, if Laird is not on the trade table.

If P2: draft Anderson, Langdon (trading 2nd round), Tomlinson, Elliot:

If P3: split picks, draft Stephens and Weightman, the rest as above.

Either option has its positives.

Just saw on the news that we've shown interest in Weightman as high as 2/3 potentially so if the club realistically thinks he might be there at pick 11 i think we'll do the split. because they'd get a bloke they wanted and another free hit at the draft, plus probably something else from the Giants as well.

i think that's the real key

the split pick could end up being worth pick 12 and pick 18 - all tbd at this point

Here’s how I think this is going down.

GC will get the priority pick and 2 becomes 3, not ideal but they probably need all the help they can get just now. Anderson is out of reach and so we do the following:

Langdon for pick 21

Tomlinson as FA

option 1 (left field): We get Jamie Elliot as FA and we take pick 3 to the draft for Young

option 2: We trade 3 to GWS for 12 and 15 and go for players like Ash and Cody Weightman.

Why trade 3 for 12 and 15?

Agree, if it's for picks, there's gonna need to be more than 12 & 15 coming back.

Agree. That’s not the greatest deal.  Giants would jump at that.

That's why the suggestion of Tomlinson's GWS compo pick is also thrown in the mix, meaning you get FA Tomlinson, picks 12 and 14 and Langdon for the compo pick. To me that is a good deal.

More likely to be a player than the compo pick, GWS will need points for their academy kid who'll get an early bid. 3 for 13, 15 (of they lose tonight) and one of their young kids before they need a bigger contact extension over the next few years.

I would be happy with Tomlinson FA, 12,  Langdon for the Tomlinson compo pick and a player from GWS, say Caldwell.

That’d be a great result.

I'd love Caldwell too, but he is very highly rated at the Giants and I just cannot see them trading him away after 1 year.

I suppose it depends on how much they want 2/3.

Which news (what channel)? I’d like to watch it!

All could realistically happen except for the Caldwell part. He was pick 11 a year ago, and wouldn’t be part of any deal unless we added another first rounder. He looks like he could become a gun midfielder and I’d gladly give a first rounder for him if he was up for a move.

Someone like Bonar might be a more realistic option to get added to the pick split trade if it happens.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
