Not many MFC supporters like you.  If Essendon beat us, the Psychologists in Malvern, Camberwell, Brighton, Aireys Inlet will be booked out for a month.

We easily forget that the best/safest coaches in the comp (Clarko, Buckley, Hardwick) had rough apprenticeships and had to grow, learn and transform on the job.  Tick to the club for extending Goodwin.  He will get better AND Adelaide would have come knocking because Pike is a bad trot away from being under the microscope.

This time last year, Buckley was about to get fired with Collingwood 0-2 in 16th spot and instead grew a beard in readiness for his impending life as a hermit! Now he is coaching the side seemingly most likely to win a flag and keeps the beard as his lucky charm!

Lets just wait  and keep the shrinks office free  for at least a little while longer. Maybe Goody should grow a beard?

This.....

We are simply down in confidence, get a win on the board and we will be flying. There almost seems to be percieved pressure with all of our players rushing their disposal since the prelim slaughter.

It will click soon and we will be a very strong team again.

Oh and the calvary will arrive too, lever, VDB, hannan, may & jeffy (still have hope for him) will make this team a lot stronger across all areas.

It’s the start of the season and our year is on the line already .

Must win the next two.

Part of me hopes we lose on Friday night.  If we do I'll return to that familiar place of despair to wit I've become so accustomed.  The MFC institutionalized me long ago and last year became almost uncomfortable as expectations rose.  A loss on Friday night returns me to a comfort zone I've come to rely on.  Like an old friend, I find a warmness in the familiarity of abject misery.

Either way, I'm a winner this Friday.

True to a point, if we lose this week against Chemist warehouse, stocks will plummet to 2012-2013 levels.

That’s me to a tee!

We were 2-3 last year, including a ten goal loss against an experienced team, and didn’t have too many issues making a preliminary final with a core one year younger than it is now.

0-5, really?  That means we lost to Ess and the Saints!

Look at the fixture for the footy left to play.  0-5 means we need 13 wins of the then 17 games left to make finals; a tall order given 9 are vs 2018 top 8 teams.  Even if they go 50/50 (and assume we win the other 8), a 0-5 start means we miss finals, or sweating on a 2017 round 23!  The other remaining games:  Lions, Crows, Suns, Roos, Blues, Saints, Bulldogs, Dockers.  A few wins there and certainly some losses.

If we go backwards this year because we are not good enough to beat the best teams so be it.  But to go backwards so far that we miss finals because we can't beat last year's bottom half of the ladder teams is beyond the pale.   So, Ess and Saints are must win games!

I think we will improve considerably but we can't afford to go 0-5 and think we make the finals, which surely is the minimum pass mark this year and absolutely essential to keep our hard earned new members, prime tv slots and sponsors.

Yes, LH.  0-5.  Then I'll panic.

People are welcome to panic anytime they like, but I'll lose the plot then.

Therefore, you are saying we will make finals after a 0-5 start or not making finals is acceptable to you.  If the former tell me how given our fixture.  If the latter, well I just don't know what to say.

Anyway, I can't see too much pessimism, panic or losing the plot, except at Tullamarine ?

Good point re. Goodwin. His confidence and trust in the team is comforting.

That is not what I'm saying at all.  I can find something unacceptable without having to panic about it.  I find people who don't let you in to traffic when you want to merge unacceptable, but I don't panic about it.

I don't think we'll be 0-5, though.  It's just my threshold of panic.  I've got other things to worry about.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
