Whilst others like Lukosius Rankine King twins and Walsh, my best prospect is Bailey Smith.

Vic metro MVP in 2018

captain Xavier College 1st XVIII

captain Sandringham under 18s TAC

Pace. Skilled. Tackles. Runs. Disposal efficiency 75%.

Weakness is that he is more outside than inside. But he can win the footy. Reminds of a Trent Cotchin type. He can hit targets

If MFC gets a top pick around 4 or 5, I hope we grab Bailey Smith

Haven't seen him play a minute but if he is more outside in junior footy then I wouldn't touch him.

The draft is littered with great junior outside mids who don't make it in the big time.

We know better that most...Morton, Toumpas to name a couple that come to mind.

Have it on good authority that the Saints are all over him.

Wont be coming to MFC.

Saints want Max King. 200cm forward and ruck.

My sources say otherwise. Plus when you consider the fact they have Marshall, Battle, McCartin all young key forwards  (two of whom have shown an ability to ruck) I'd find it hard to believe they're into Max King. His brother would be more likely I would think.

Do we have to use a pick on Toby? What pick would it be?

Yes. Works like Father/Son bidding.

Sounds like (yes, on the surface) Strauss...

Sounds dedicated.  I'm not sure I'd draft him, it would be hard to accommodate him culturally.

Some of that is a bit over the top... hopefully there’s more to his life than footy.

Actually sounds super immature. Professionalism is great, but once he's inside a professional football club, he'll need a proper eating programme and the players around him will remind him it's fine to be dedicated, but you also have to live a little.

At this rate he's heading for a fall...

I get the no alcohol thing, that's fine. Good for him. I know most kids have had plenty of drinks by 15 yet alone 18 but some haven't and if he's that committed to his footy then I kind of get that you'd go why even have a first drink? Can't miss what you've never had. There's plenty of other ways to unwind.

The obsessive training concerns me. Especially the obsessive training with the dad, he might not be actively pushing him but he's condoning it. Surely there's a point of diminishing returns where you're just running up miles on a young body? Maybe he's the next Brent Harvey and can go for ages but what if he's the next Chris Judd who's body wasn't the same after about 25 and was pretty much done after 30?

The obsessive diet concerns me even more and makes me worry he's not far from an eating disorder. He wouldn't be the first footballer. Weighing food and planning a diet is fine, but where's the harm in other people cooking for you or eating out at restaurants you trust? Combine that with the intermittent fasting and it's worrying behaviour. He's already drinking coffee every day - despite not liking it - to stay focused in school because his brain is crying out for some food!

Amazing, we have bemoaned the lack of professionalism and dedication of our players for the last 10+ years. There is a Tracc thread which leans this way at the moment.

The dedication sounds amazing BUT you hope he can balance his own expectations and life to make sure he doesn't burn himself out.

Haven’t read the article yet, but this kid will go top 5-10 and is the most rounded midfielder in this draft. He’ll be a gun midfielder in time. He’s got amazing balance, recovery, clean hands and turn of pace. I’d kill to have him in red and blue but he’s well out of our reach. Alas, maybe we can lure him in a few years time!

He may be a little over the top but I like his level of dedication and commitment.

As a coach, I would like it even more.

Much easier to manage than someone without that commitment and ambition.

At the end of the day the successful players all have a single minded commitment to get the most out of themselves, and training harder than others and looking after yourself off field are key drivers.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
