I think this is very simple for us.  Hogan is contracted.  If Freo want him, they have to pay.  He cost us more than a first round pick when we traded for his rights.  He's one of the best young KPFs going around.  If they want to trade for him, they can give us their first pick and the first round pick they get for Neale.  That would be picks four and five to us for Hogan.  Maybe an exchange of later picks in their favour, but I don't see the need to be honest.  They've been trying to pry him loose from us for years.  If they want to do it this year they need to pay.

He was adament to stay and be part of something great.

Getting injured and missing finals has changed his perspective.

A young kid has seen his colleagues succeed without him. It can be demoralizing and can impact your own self worth. It happens to all of us. I am not the least bit surprised by this if it's all true.

This stands as an important test for this regime. Scully felt he didn't belong. Then money weighed in. I don't think money is as big an allure for Hogan: he is getting the coin whether he stays or goes.

The test for the club is to highlight to Hogan how important he is. To sit on the sidelines after being through so much, and to miss the excitement of finals...that must have really affected him. We need some perspective here.

It is not about playing hardball. Or rejecting his request. It is about ensuring Hogan is mentally able to understand how important he is. We know he is a strong kid after what he has been through. But I feel his missing finals was kind of the cherry on top of a horrid 24 months. That he still kicked 80+ goals in that period is truly amazing.

Club and fans need to get around him and let him know how important he is. Tell him on instagram. Don't be all "woe is me, please don't leave Hoges!" Give him support and tell him he's a star. These kids are so aggressively scrutinise in the social media era. We need to turn it around and make him one of us.

I like the sentiments praha, and I'm willing to get on board with that line of thought. Fact is he has been through more in the last 24 months than many go through over decades, as you've pointed out the injury and watching his teammates go through the finals (relatively successfully) must've stung as happy as he would've been for them.

The club's pitch or talks with Jesse may well centre around helping him to regain confidence in himself and that he is a big part of our future hopes and dreams.

I don't want Jesse to leave, never have, the poor guy has had his fair share of c&* over the last two years.

To me Jesse is worth every cent because both adults and kids love to see him play for a our club, he is very much wanted by a lot of us supporters; and i hope he can be a part of the happy times to come for all of us?

Until the club or Jesse come out and say he is leaving then we deal with it, but for now he is still a player for our club, and i hope he is playing for us next year?

Of course but i think it is bigger now than him being contracted, or a "player". if you're not motivated by the environment or your motivation lies elsewhere, it always falls down on management and stakeholders to find a way to motivate and instill belief. imposing rules or contractual obligations never works because no organisation in their right mind keeps someone around who doesn't want to be there. it's not just in football. the contractual element in sport is less about putting an explicit time window on the minimum obligation a player has: it is a safeguard for teams that, should the contract need to be altered, they have bargaining power. it's extremely rare that a contracted player that wishes to leave the team their contracted to doesn't have their wish fulfulled. I cringe when I hear teams say "they are a contracted player". The contract serves to protect the player's earning capacity first and foremost. If Hogan wishes to move, first intent is to ensure he is fully aware of how important he is. Beyond that, I believe the team has an obligation to him, fans and the team environment to get the best possible outcome in a trade.

GC will take Lukosius and Rozee who are good mates as well to try and keep them up there.

What has been the catalyst and sudden change for Jesse? eg; not wanting to extend contract and open to a trade? What has happened?

I’m hearing the freo offer is pretty Insane $$ wise, similar ball part to the mooted gaff and Shiel offers

I’d love Jesse to stay but I have never felt he has the total buy-in that a team needs for sustained and ultimate success - such as the  hawks and cats whose players made contractural sacrifices to keep their dynasties together. The only way I think he can prove that he wants this as much as I think the other young demons do is to sign a contract extension now. If he won’t, lets move on and maximise what we can get to address our needs. Personally I don’t think May is part of this but I would defer to our football team who I think have traded and drafted amazingly well for the last 4-5 years.
