I get the sense that the best we can hope for is Pick 5 + Future 1st rounder.

Jesse needs to make up his mind so we can focus on other ways to improve our list.

I’d argue that’s a better deal than 5&11

i can’t see the dockers finishing 9th or higher even with hogan and lobb. And they could go backwards and we end up with 2 top 5 picks

11 will go for Lobb

Right so we just throw out the farm. Personally I would tell Freo to get s%^&$# and make Hogan play another year with us and see if he changes his mind and then dilly around next year.

Of course there maybe something wrong with Hogan we don't know about.

So it has nothing to do with what May is worth, rather what we feel comfortable with? Like in the castle “it’s the vibe of the thing”?

Strange way of looking at it from my perspective, but just my opinion. Each to their own I guess.

Go Dees!

I feel pick 5 would have been overs, but if we had 6 as well i would be more comfortable in paying them overs. Not sure why,but anwyay...

Reckon 23 is for Lobb. That's fair and GWS under big salary cap cloud so I don't think they'd be playing hardball.

Shiel will be GWS' big salary cap dump

I still think Gold Coast will take 11 + sweeteners (player or 2nd round pick.)

The more I think on it the more I am convinced that GCS are desperate to offload May.

They are a club that reeks of instability and they cannot afford another year where the story is all about their ex captain leaving. They have had two years of that with Ablett and then Lynch.

Plenty of time for this to play out.

Fair enough, hopefully we end up with all the players we’re after and some reasonable picks to go to the draft with. Our team has a proven history of turning an average pick number into a very handy player so looking forward to seeing where we end up. ?

I think the only way they will accept 11 is if we bundle in a player like Tyson. Yeah I know Tyson doesn't want to go but ...

Depends if they have any interest in the players we are happy to send to them.  They won't take our scraps and Pick 11, they would ask for someone who is probably going to be in their best 22 to go with that pick.  Not sure who we would give up.

Tyson may be able to be convinced...

is it possible we could try to convince Kent? would that do it?

Kelity and a thank you note signed by the whole team?

Freo are such a garbage organization the way they conduct themselves...I could understand if Jesse wanted to go to a professional outfit in West Coast but I hope he realises he's effectively urinating his career away

I really think we just hold off for 12 months on this whole thing. Our hand will be better for it.

2019:

Hogan is contracted for next season but does not become an RFA. Kicks 50-60 goals including 10-15 in finals.

May is contracted for next season but does become an RFA. Relinquishes the captaincy.

At the end of the season Freo realises Lobb isn't anywhere near the player to build a side around and offers their 2019 first round and 2020 first round for Jesse Hogan for Melbourne's 2019 first and second round.

Deal gets done in 2019 and we pick up May for free, on a lesser contract than we'd have offered him this year. 2020 we go on to win the flag and add 2 top 5 draftees to secure our dynasty.

All the other teams quit because we're too good.

Would this work?

Brisbane give pick 5 for Neale.

Freo give pick 5 and 11 for Hogan. Freo and MFC also swap 2019 1st round picks.

Melbourne give pick 5, 11, and 2019 1st round pick (from Freo) to Gold Coast.

Gold Coast give MFC May, KK, and pick 2. MFC use pick 2 on Rankine.

For Hogan and our 2019 pick we land May, KK and Rankine.

This is probably the most crucial trade period Freo has had in years with the potential to recast their team and actually have a forward line for once if they can secure Hogan and Lobb. Instead, they have a CEO doing the List Manager job and a Footy Manager whose only been in the job for a week. Nuts.

I think it’s pretty clear Hogan will be playing for Freo and May for Melbourne in 2019.

If we get KK, May, Preuss and improve our draft position for the loss of Hogan, Tyson and Kent it’s a good return.

5+11, then trading one for May would be a decent. The worry I have is Freo will give up 11 for Lobb, so we'll only get 5+second rounder for Hogan.

Net result needs to be getting May and take a first rounder to draft. Anything less than that would be unacceptable.

Sorry many nervous nellies lacking patience on this forum. “Just take pick 5 and move on Im over it.” Gee whiz I’d love to buy your house at auction!

Ya’all need a little Axel Rose in your lives at the moment ...

Precisely. And their star midfielder and dual B+F winner is leaving and telling people he will never play for the coach again. They also re-contracted Harley Bennell a month ago and are now giving him the ar$e....what a joke.

So we get 5 and 11 for Hogan. I reckon 11 is too high but will have to be accepted. If we waste 5 on May it will be a disgrace.

I say we tell them to go blow a goat and work on getting into the top end of the draft in other ways. Deals are being done as we wait for these dimwits to play there games.

We don't exactly have a lot of currency this season...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
