Ay storm boy, can you tell us which Swan we're getting for Vandenberg? Is it Melican?

That is a very good question. Not sure But I would not mind getting a swap of second round picks for a start. We have their 31 pick but we give them our 34 pick. That would be my starting point.

Read my post.  I said we should consider it in terms of any interest in another backman, like Alex Pearce, which is what AF suggested.  It has nothing to do with adding May to our list.  We will go for him regardless.  In my opinion we have no need to add a further key backman to our list outside of May.

Be it May Pearce or little red riding hood we will derive no comfort from Keilty, he should be disregarded from any post.

Let's not entertain the idea of getting Brad Hill somehow. He is a downhill skier of the highest order. If he has the ball and a metre or a metre and a half on an opponent, he'll probably burn them off. If anyone gets closer and puts the acid on him, he'll cough it up

All due respect but I would trust Alistair Clarkson as a judge of footballing talent over you Pineapple.

Triple premiership wingman, B&F at Freo in his first season. Yeah he’s rubbish.

Why should he be disregarded?  Is it his good year at Casey that has turned you off?

The bloke could be good depth for us going forward.  I don't know why I'm bothering to argue the point with you as you've got your mind made up, but I think you're wrong.

Nah but how about that Winx though..

He'd be handy on a wing, Steve.  Quick, good endurance, gets to the right positions.  Plus he knows how to win.

Get it done, Josh!

Wynx is a girl genius.

We blinked first with Lever who was uncontracted. Will be a disgrace if we accept anything less than 4 and 5 for Hogan.

Absolutely correct. We did pay overs for Lever who was uncontracted. Hogan is contacted so 2 first rounders would be required. Happy for us to throw a 2nd or 3rd round pick back at Freo to get the deal done

I’ll simplify it for you.

Out: Full forward, late first round pick

In: Full back, wingman, early first round pick

How is that not coming out ahead for the MFC or at bare minimum a fair trade for both parties?

Fair dinkum you’d think Jesse Hogan was Buddy Franklin the way many on here go on about him.

He ‘aint that good. Which is why I’ll give you the whisper ... our FD is not bending over backwards to keep him.

I'll simplify it for you:

Out: Jesse Hogan

In: Pick 5&6 / next years first round

Out: 2nd round pick

In: Brad Hill

This trade scenario allows the club to bring in May and potentially another high quality player via a trade. Personally I'm not that interested in Hill but that is his value. Why would you cough up a first round pick for Brad Hill?  As another poster mentioned he's a downhilll skier and certainly not worth a first round pick.

The deal you're proposing is slanted towards Freo not MFC.

I'll give you the tip, Hogan was in AA contention half way through the year playing in the hardest position to play (CHF) as a 23 year old. Name another player in the AFL of the same quality in the same age bracket or younger we can replace him with that would cost less? The only way to replace him is via free agency, the draft or from within (weidemannn). We won't be replacing him this year as the Lynch boat has sailed and any key forward we draft will take 4 years to develop. Take a look at the amount of key forwards GWS drafted and that were supposed to be good AFL quality players. None of them have gone anywhere near justifying the draft pick they were taken at. You might not rate Hogan and that's fair enough he has some limitations, but he also is only 23 and you know he's going to kick you 50 goals a year for another 7 years. How many other KP forwards can you say that about?

So are we thinking tomorrow morning there will be an official announcement?

When does he jet off to Europe, you'd think something would come before then.

Club is in a good situation. We get maximum return for Hogan or we keep and pick up May next year for free. Can't lose unless Mahoney folds over.

You think the Pies will just walk away next year with Dunn and Goldsack probably retired?

I’d say Hogan would’ve been given the weekend to make up his mind so the negotiations can begin.

A lot of clubs would be waiting on this particular decision as it affects quite a few trades.

Here is a hypothetical to mull over:

  • GCS trade pick 2 to Port for their 9 and 10 (assuming Polec gets to North) so Port can get Lokusius, Rozee or Rankine, then GCS will have picks 3, 9, 10 in 2018.
  • Demons trade Hogan for pick 5 (assuming Neale gets to Brisbane) and Freo's 1st round 2019 pick (+/- later picks maybe - Freo's favour).
  • GCS, may take Freo's  2019 1st round pick for May to give them an extra pick next year.
  • We keep pick 5 (6 post Lynch comp pick) in 2018.

Adelaide have picks 7 and 15 so could also enter the fray for GCS pick 2/3.

Port and Adelaide are desperate to get the SA lads so don't assume GCS will take picks 2 and 3 to the draft!   If they trade out of both 2 and 3 they could end up with 5, 7, 9, 10 and 15 in 2018!  Lots of permutations around those combos!

Stranger things have happened!

Scouting report on Melican.

Great in the air, swallows anything that goes near him, aggressive in attack, slow at ground level, poor hands, kicking lacks penetration. Looks clumsy but when he's up, this boy really flies. AFL role: play one-on-one against Salmon, Ling, Fisher, etc

There is no way in the world freo made there offer to hogan without knowing they would have to cough up two top end draft picks to get him.

They probably didn’t expect Lobb to be on the market as well

#5 &#6 for Jesse hogan or F off freo he’s contracted so pay up.

#6 grabs Steven may who fills a significant hole for us.

#5 is the really important one. I’m sure we are sniffing around for an established outside mid. Could we get in on the Polec chase at the last minute and offer #5 for Polec & #9 considering they were ready to accept #11 for him alone.

i also love bailey smith as a player and have no objection to going to the draft and bringing him in to further build our already handy talent pool.

Keilty might not get another contract depending on which defenders we bring in this trade and draft, but he certainly should get another year if there is room. In hindsight we should have bought him in instead of Petty for the Saints game. He had a solid finals series in the VFL and was one of the few that stood up in the grand final. Can't rubbish a player who hasn't even had a crack at the AFL but who's VFL performance have been solid with a few BOG in there.

Shittest trade suggestion ever goes to Oliver Warren....

This also somehow got published on the AFL website... hahhahaha

"Fever dream trades"

Not long now.......

...

Pretty soon we'll have arrived....

....

At 200 pages..... very exciting.

On Trade Radio, Mahoney said: “Through his management he’ll come back to us before the trade period starts on Monday.”

So in the next 24 hrs we should know.

Neale won Freo's bnf last night and didn't indicate what he would do.

Edit:  Perth newspapers reporting Neale has officially asked to be traded to Lions.  Dominoes now set to fall!

5 and 9 for Polec. Wow!

That probably takes the cake. You are the winner.

I assume you mean #5 for Polec & No. 9 Robbie Gray ?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
